GRASONVILLE, Md. - Nicholas Dilio (Hopewell Junction, N.Y./John Jay) finished 29th to lead the Saint Peter's men's golf team to a 16th-place standing at the Whiting-Turner Towson Invitational on Tuesday.
Dilio posted a 78 in the first round at the Hogs Head Golf Course in Easton, Md., on Monday and then fired a team-best 76 in the final round at Prospect Bay Country Club in Grasonville, Md., on Tuesday to finish in 29th place with a two-round score of 154, eight strokes behind the medalist.
The event was scheduled as a three-day event at Prospect Bay Country Club, but heavy rain and flooding cancelled the first day of competition. The event was moved to the course in Easton due to the conditions on the course at Prospect Bay Country Club for the first round before returning to the scheduled site for the final round on Tuesday.
Eric Edmunds (Skaneateles, N.Y./Skaneateles) (52nd place, 158), Brian Grubbs (Cortez, Colo./Montezuma Cortez) (63rd place, 159), Dominic Diaz (Bridgewater, N.J./Bridgewater Raritan) (96th place, 167) and Brandon Molson (Westfield, N.J./Westfield) (102nd place, 171) rounded out Saint Peter's five competitors.
Virginia Commonwealth rallied to earn the team title after posting a two-round score of 598, five strokes ahead of Fairleigh Dickinson (603) while Northern Colorado (606), Seton Hall (612), Towson (612) and George Washington (612) rounded out the Top-5 teams in the field. The Peacocks posted a 322 in the first round and a 313 in the final round to card a 635 in the event to place 16th.
