Saint Peter's Softball Splits Twinbill With Rider On Monday

LAWRENCEVILLE, N.J. – The Saint Peter's softball team split a Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) doubleheader on Monday. The Peacocks took the opening contest 5-3, while Rider took the nightcap, 13-0.

Nicole Olmedo (Chino, Calif./Chino) recorded three hits, two runs and one RBI in the opening game. Erica Colon (Fairview, N.J./High Tech) finished with two hits; two RBI and one run while pitching a complete game.

Amanda Irving paced the Broncs with four hits; two RBI and one run scored while Kehli Washington added two hits and one run.

Saint Peter's took a 2-0 edge in the first inning, powered by a two-run homerun to left field from Colon. The Peacocks expanded its led in the second inning, following a solo blast to right center from Crystal Carlucci (Iselin, N.J./John F. Kennedy Memorial). Saint Peter's added another score in the third inning, following a RBI base hit from Samantha Storms (Lake Geneva, Wis./William Bay) to advance Olmedo home for the 4-0 advantage.

Rider responded in the bottom of the third with a solo homerun from Irving to cut the deficit. The Broncs continued its comeback bid in the sixth inning, scoring another run off a throwing error by the Peacocks to only trail, 4-2.

Saint Peter's added insurance in the seventh inning, fueled by a RBI single from Olmedo to advance Stephanie Gilronan (Saddle Brook, N.J. / Saddle Brook) home to extend the lead.

Rider scored one time in the seventh inning off a single to center field from Irving, but Colon got out the inning to fend off the Broncs, 5-3.

The Broncs offense exploded in game two, starting in the second inning. Amanda Crimarco kicked things off with a RBI to right center that scored two. Next at-bat, Washington hit a RBI base hit to second base to score another run. Emily Cottrell hit a sac fly to right field, advancing another runner around the bases. Later in the inning, Rider hit back-to-back RBI base hits to open up a 6-0 lead.

Rider added another run in the third inning. With the bases loaded, Irving was hit by a pitch that allowed Allysen Breeden to score. The Broncs scored six more times in the fourth inning on its way to the 13-0 victory.

After today, Saint Peter's stands at 10-32 overall while 4-8 in conference action.

The squad returns to the field on Apr. 23 for a twinbill against Delaware. First pitch is slated for 3:00 p.m.
