Box Score 2 JERSEY CITY, N.J. – The Manhattan Jaspers swept a Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) doubleheader against the Saint Peter's softball team on Sunday. Manhattan took the opening tilt 7-3 and the nightcap, 4-3.
Nicole Olmedo (Chino, Calif./Chino) recorded three RBI, one hit and one run in the opening contest with Erica Colon (Fairview, N.J./High Tech) chipping in with two hits.
Kate Bowen and Elena Bowman each finished with three hits in the opening victory for Manhattan. Bowen also earned the victory on the mound, pitching 4.1 innings and striking out four batters.
The Jaspers scored four runs in the opening inning, sparked by a RBI single by Andi Stallard that went down the first base line and was inches away from being called foul. Next at bat, Reinhardt crushed a three-run homerun to left center to clear the bases.
Saint Peter's answered in the bottom of the inning, beginning with a leadoff single from Stephanie Gilronan (Saddle Brook, N.J./Saddle Brook). Following a sacrifice bunt from Lee Harrison (Las Vegas, Nev./Coronado) to advance Gilronan into scoring position, Olmedo hit her sixth homerun of the season to cut the deficit to two.
Manhattan countered in the second inning, fueled by a solo homerun from Bowman to give the Jaspers a 5-2 lead. Manhattan scored again in the third, powered by a single to left from Bowen to advance Reinhardt home for the score.
The Peacocks did not go away, scoring a run in the bottom of the fourth inning off a ground out from Olmedo that was able to advance Taylor Corretjer (Thiells, N.Y./North Rockland) home for the score to only trail, 6-3. Manhattan added another run in the seventh inning to hold off Saint Peter's, 7-3.
In the second game, Manhattan took a 1-0 edge in the second inning, following a homerun to right field from Mickayla Romero. The Peacocks answered in third inning, following a blooper to left field from Aimee Schnecker (Doylestown, Pa./Central Bucks West) to score Amber Velasquez (Hopewell Junction, N.Y./John Jay) and knot the game at 1-1.
The Jaspers regained the lead in the fifth, following a sacrifice fly from Jenn Velasquez that allowed Lauren Visconti to tag from third and advance home.
Saint Peter's showed life in the sixth inning, tying up the game with a homerun from Colon and two batters later taking the lead off a homerun to centerfield from Crystal Carlucci (Iselin, N.J./John F. Kennedy Memorial).
Down 3-2, Bowman hit a two-run homerun in the top of the seventh to propel the Jaspers to the 4-3 victory and two-game sweep of the Peacocks.
Following the losses, Saint Peter's falls to 10-38 overall and 4-12 in MAAC play while Manhattan improves to 20-24 overall and 9-7 in conference action.
Saint Peter's returns to action on May 3, when the team concludes its regular season on the road against Siena and Marist (May 4).
