Box Score 2 JERSEY CITY, N.J. – The Saint Peter's softball team suffered a pair of losses to Quinnipiac in Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) action on Saturday.
Francesca D'Amato (Lyndhurst, N.J./Immaculate Conception), Nicole Olmedo (Chino, Calif./Chino) and Samantha Storms (Lake Geneva, Wis./William Bay) each recorded two hits in the team's opening game of the doubleheader.
The Bobcats scored twice in the first inning, fueled by RBI-hits from Sydney Robey and Jordan Paolucci. Quinnipiac later scored one run each in the second, fifth and sixth innings to take a 5-0 lead.
Saint Peter's did not go away, scoring three runs in the sixth inning. With the bases loaded, Lee Harrison (Las Vegas, Nev./Coronado) earned an RBI off an error by the third basemen to allow Stephanie Gilronan (Saddle Brook, N.J./Saddle Brook) to round the bases and give the Peacocks its first run of the game. Later in the inning, Storms hit a RBI-single to left field to advance two more runners home and only trail Quinnipiac, 5-3. The Bobcats countered with another score in the seventh inning, taking the first tilt, 6-3.
In the second game of the doubleheader, Quinnipiac scored in the first inning, following consecutive errors by the Peacocks. Saint Peter's responded with a three-run first inning, fueled by a two-run blast from Storms to give the Peacocks a 3-1 lead.
The Bobcats pulled away in the second inning, scoring six runs to give Saint Peter's a 7-3 lead. Quinnipiac continued its surge in the third, sparked by a three-run homerun by Nikki Barba to give the Bobcats a 10-3 advantage. In the following inning, the team scored five more times, powered by a grand slam from Paolucci to give Quinnipiac a 15-3 lead and ultimately the 16-4 victory.
With the losses, the Peacocks fall to 4-22 overall this season and 0-4 in conference action. Quinnipiac improves to 6-21 and earns its first conference victories of the season.
Saint Peter's returns to action on Apr. 8, when the team travels up to New York for a doubleheader against Army.
