Army Takes Two From Softball On Wednesday

WEST POINT, N.Y. – Army swept a non-conference softball doubleheader on Tuesday. The Black Knights won the opener 4-2 and then took second contest, 8-7.

Nicole Olmedo (Chino, Calif./Chino) paced the Peacocks with three hits, four RBI and one run scored, while Erica Colon (Fairview, N.J./High Tech) and Amber Velasquez (Hopewell Junction, N.Y./John Jay) each tallied two RBI on the afternoon.

Alee Rashenskas fueled Army with three RBI, four hits and one run scored. Kasey McCravey also added three RBI, with three hits and one run scored.

In the opener, the Black Knights scored four runs in the second inning and was able to hold on for the 4-2 victory.

Rashenskas gave Army the 2-0 lead with a RBI single to right field. Later in the inning, McCarvey knocked in two following a single to right field.

The second game of the afternoon went into extra innings, with Army hitting a walk-off single to secure an 8-7 victory. 

Saint Peter's took a 2-0 lead in the first inning, powered by a two-run homerun from Olmedo to centerfield.

Army responded in the second inning, scoring three runs off a RBI single from Amanda Nguyen and a fielding error that allowed two more runs to score to give the Black Knights the 3-2 advantage.

The Black Knights extended its lead in the fifth inning with a sac-fly to right field by Alyssa Strobehn to allow the runner to advance and give Army the 4-2 lead.

Saint Peter's offense exploded in the seventh inning, scoring five runs. Colon kicked things off with a two-run blast to right centerfield to knot the game at four. Later in the innings, Olmedo singled to right to advance two runners around the bases to give the Peacocks a 6-4 lead. Taylor Corretjer (Thiells, N.Y./North Rockland) singled to bring in another run and extend the lead.

Army tied things up in the bottom of the seventh, scoring three runs to knot the contest at seven. McCravey hit a RBI double and Alex Gaff batted in two runs off a triple.

Rashenskas saved the day for the Black Knights with a RBI single to right field to give Army the 8-7 victory.

With the losses, Saint Peter's falls to 4-24 while Army improves to 17-17.

The squad has a quick turnaround, as the team will travel to take on Fairleigh Dickinson tomorrow. The non-conference doubleheader is set to begin at 3:00 p.m.
