JERSEY CITY, N.J. – The Saint Peter's baseball team placed four players on the All-Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) second team, announced on Tuesday. Juniors Nick Henriquez (Paramus, N.J./Paramus) and Chris Hugg (Ironia, N.J./Randolph) along with sophomores Jon Kristoffersen (Jefferson, N.J./Jefferson Township) and Rob Moore (Ridge, N.Y./Longwood) each received their first all-conference recognition of their career.
Henriquez, who earned the All-MAAC second-team nod in the utility spot after playing games this season at first base, third base and the outfield, ranked second on the team in hits (54), third in batting average (.297), third in runs scored (25), third in RBIs and fourth in homers (2). The junior posted a hit in 36 of the 49 games he played, including 10 games with at least two hits and three games with three hits. Henriquez knocked in a season-high three runs in an 8-7 win against Seton Hall on Mar. 19 and also registered five games with two RBIs.
Hugg, who received the All-MAAC second-team selection for the outfield, paced the team in doubles (15) and RBIs (40) while ranking second in home runs (4), fourth in batting average (.292), fourth in hits (49) and fourth in runs scored. The junior recorded the third-most doubles and drove in the seventh-most runs in the program's single-season history. Hugg smacked a grand slam in the ninth inning to lift the Peacocks past Stony Brook 7-3 on Mar. 1 and finished the game with five RBIs while also knocking in four runs in an 11-3 win against Iona on May 3. The junior posted a hit in 31 of the 44 games played, including 12 games with at least two hits and two games with at least three hits.
Kristoffersen, who picked up the All-MAAC second-team nod at shortstop, paced the team and also established a new program single-season hit record with 67 base hits. The sophomore also led the team in runs scored (37), triples (3) and total bases (87) while ranking second in batting average (.305) and second in doubles (11). In addition to becoming the single-season hit leader, Kristoffersen finished tied for seventh in runs scored and eighth in total bases on the single-season charts. The sophomore recorded two hits, and four RBIs while touching home with the decisive run in a 6-5 win against Saint Louis on Feb. 28. Kristoffersen registered a 16-game hit streak during the year and posted a hit in 41 of the 52 games played. He notched two hits in a game 18 times in 2014 and also had four games with three hits.
Kristoffersen's double-play partner Moore picks up the All-MAAC second-team nod at second base. Moore paced the team in batting average (.307) and home runs (5) while ranking second in total bases (78), second in doubles (11), second in RBIs (30) and third in runs scored (24). The sophomore plated the game-winning run against Saint Louis and also smacked a three-run homer in an 8-7 victory against Monmouth on Apr. 6. He recorded a hit in 31 of the 45 games in played, including 10 games with two hits and four games with three base hits.
In addition, Saint Peter's had 15 players named to the MAAC All-Academic team. To be eligible for the MAAC All-Academic team, a student-athlete must have completed two semesters at their institution and a hold a cumulative grade point average of 3.20 on a 4.0 scale.
Kristoffersen, Kevin Croucher (Wayne, N.J./DePaul Catholic), Kyle Grimes (Iselin, N.Y./John F. Kennedy Memorial), Sean Henry (Brick, N.J./Brick Township), Zach Hopf (Woodbridge, N.J./Woodbridge), Nathaniel Leon (Brooklyn, N.Y./Archbishop Molloy), Ed Mejias (Ocean Township, N.J./Ocean Township), Jason Midkiff, Frank Morris (Levittown, Pa./Harry S. Truman [Seton Hall]), Adam Purcilly (Troy, Mich./Avondale), Ariel Ramirez (San Domingo, Dominican Republic/Babeque), Zach Rawson (Ashburn, Va./Broad Run), Jim Smith (Hatfield, Pa./North Penn), Mark Wilson (Clark, N.J./Arthur L. Johnson) and Michael Wulff (Madison, N.J./Madison) each made the All-Academic team to give the Peacocks a league-high 15 members.
Saint Peter's finished the 2014 season 11-41 overall and 6-17 in league play. The Peacocks ended the year with a 5-2 loss at Manhattan on Saturday.
