BRONX, N.Y. – The Saint Peter's men's tennis team lost a 4-3 decision in its opening contest of the 2014 season to Atlantic-10 opponent Fordham on Saturday.
The Peacocks and Rams split the six singles matches of the afternoon. In his Saint Peter's (0-1) debut, Daniil Ivanov defeated Max Peara, 6-4, 7-5. Sebastian Rojas also won his first match in a Peacock uniform, downing Harris Durkovic, 6-0, 6-1. Jorge Rodriguez won his singles contest against Joey Brander, 7-5, 7-5.
Fordham (1-0) took two of the three doubles matches of the afternoon, giving them the decisive go-ahead point. The tandem of Carlos Carrera and Rodriguez dropped its double match. Ivanov and Tom Jottrand lost in their first doubles match of the season to the team of Peara and Brander. Oliver Bellomi and Rojas won their doubles match, 8-5.
Saint Peter's returns to action on Sept. 19 to compete in a weekend tournament at Hofstra University.
