Carrera-Ivanov Duo Advance To Doubles Semifinal After Day One Of The Hofstra Invitational

QUEENS, N.Y – The Saint Peter's men's tennis team completed its opening day at the Hofstra Invitational on Friday.

The two-day tournament consists of several schools, including Hofstra, Stony Brook, Wagner and Sacred Heart.

In the "A" singles bracket, Carlos Carrera won his opening match against Allen Wang of Wagner 8-5. Carrera lost his quarterfinal match to Jose Morales of Stony Brook, 9-8 (6). Daniil Ivanov dropped his opening tournament matchup against Matt Dean of Sacred Heart.

Jorge Rodriguez lost an 8-6 decision to Kenzo Kauffmann in the "B" singles bracket. Oliver Bellomi was defeated in his singles contest against Ricky Hendler of Hofstra 8-4.

Following an opening round bye in the "C" singles bracket, Sebastian Rojas dropped his second round match to Justin Park, 8-3. Luke Whaley suffered an opening round loss to Cory Seltman.

In the doubles "A" bracket, the tandem of Carrera and Ivanov won its first two contests to compete in the bracket's semifinals contest against Alex Felisa and Morales of Stony Brook. The duo of Bellomi and Rodriguez dropped its opening doubles contest.

In the consolation singles bracket, Ivanov automatically advances to tomorrow's quarterfinals after a first-round bye.

The squad returns to action tomorrow (Sept. 20) for the final day of the tournament. Opening set is slated for 9 a.m.
