Women's Tennis Defeats Monmouth 4-3 In Conference Opener

WEST LONG BRANCH, N.J. – The Saint Peter's women's tennis team picked up its first victory of the season on Tuesday with a 4-3 decision over Monmouth.

In doubles action, Monmouth (0-1, 0-1 MAAC) took a 1-0 advantage, taking two of the three doubles matchups against the Peacocks (1-1, 1-0 MAAC).

Singles play was a different story, as Saint Peter's took four of the six matches against the Hawks on the afternoon.

Adina Ungurean-Halagian opened things up with a 6-0, 6-1 victory over Kendall Kauffman. Claudia Hellman defeated Robyn Belen, 6-1, 6-1.

Both Lucia Radovic and Malieva Hedberg suffered loses in their singles contests to give Monmouth two points.

Down 3-2, Christian Resurreccion knotted the contest at 3 with a 6-3, 6-3 singles victory over Sarah Turner.  

Elena Melian Puigventos won the decisive point for the Peacocks, outlasting Chioma Gabriel, 6-1, 7-6 (4).

The team returns to action on Sept. 26, when they travel to West Point to compete in the West Point Invitational.
