New Hampshire Edges Saint Peter's Men's Soccer In Overtime At Mayor's Cup, 1-0

ONEONTA, N.Y. – New Hampshire scored in the 94th minute to down Saint Peter's 1-0 in overtime in the opening day of the Mayor's Cup hosted by Hartwick on Friday evening.

David Giddings (Newburgh, N.Y./Newburgh Free Academy) made one save in 93:24 minutes of work in between the pipes for the Peacocks (0-2-0) while Luke Fairlamb (Northampton, England/Unity College) had a team-best six shots on the day.

Christopher Wingate scored the Wildcats (1-2-0) tally off David Schlatter assist while Travis Worra turned away five shots in the winning effort.

New Hampshire scored the lone goal of the day to earn the first win in the series against Saint Peter's. The two teams only other match ended in a 1-all standstill in 2006.

In overtime, Wingate posted the only shot needed in the extra session off a feed from Schlatter at 93:24 to propel the Wildcats to the win. It was only one of two shots New Hampshire had on goal during the match.

The Wildcats outshot the Peacocks 11-9, but Saint Peter's had five shots on goal.

In the waning minutes of the regulation both teams had scoring chances with the chance to win the match. Fairlamb had a shot stopped by Worra in the 87th minute and New Hampshire had an A.J. Abers shot hit the post in the closing seconds of the second half.

Saint Peter's returns to action on Sunday against Hartwick in the second game of the Mayor's Cup. Match time is 3 p.m.
