Box Score TOWSON, Md. – The Saint Peter's women's volleyball team lost its opening contest on Friday at the Towson Invitational.
Dayana Arrufat-Rondon (Trujillo, Puerto Rico/Carvin School) paced the Peacocks with eight kills in the match. Meredith Przybocki (Pine Bush, N.Y./Pine Bush) finished with four kills while Kristina Baehr (Manassas, Va./Stonewall Jackson) recorded 16 assists in the losing effort.
Saitaua Iosia tallied 14 kills for the Towson Tigers, while Haley Pa'akaula finished with 11 kills in the victory.
Towson (4-0) won all three sets of the match to earn its first home victory of the 2014 season.
In the opening game, both teams traded points, with Saint Peter's (0-3) out in front 6-5. The Tigers countered with a 10-3 run to take a 15-8 advantage. Following a Saint Peter's timeout, Towson continued its offensive outburst to take the first set, 25-9.
Second set, Towson sustained its offensive surge, opening up the game with a 10-4 lead. The Tigers did not surrender its edge, winning the second set 25-9.
In the decisive third set, Towson opened up an 11-2 advantage, powered by four consecutive kills from Iosia. Following a Peacock substitution, Saint Peter's scored three straight times to trim the deficit. The Tigers answered with a 5-2 run to take a 16-7 lead. Saint Peter's continued to fight back, but Towson did not relinquish its lead and took the final set, 25-16.
Lauren Behrens (Frankfort, Ill./Lincoln-Way East) and Lexandra Wirth (Medford, N.J./Shawnee) each recorded three kills in the contest. Kayla Howell (Monrovia, Calif./Monrovia) finished with nine digs.
Saint Peter's returns to action tomorrow against La Salle (10 a.m.) and Coppin St. (3 p.m.) in the final day of the Towson Invitational.
