Bridgeport Sweeps Saint Peter's Swimming And Diving

JERSEY CITY, N.J. – Matea Samardzic (Split, Croati/Ekonomsko-Birotehnicka Skola) won two events and Jonathan Gomez (Cali, Colombia/Patrick Henry [Va.]) and Sean Dunne (Holmdel, N.J./Christian Brothers Academy) each won an event on the men's side in the final dual meet of the season against Bridgeport on Saturday.

Samardzic won the 200 IM with a time of 2:08.53 and the 100 back with a time of 57.11. Gomez was victorious in the 200 IM with a time of 1:53.88 and Dunne took first in the 100 fly with a time of 51.61. Gomez also finished third in the 100 back (53.32).

Marie Feneron (Molsheim, France/Lycee Henri Meck) and Anastasiia Mushtei (Dneiptopnovsh, Ukraine/Finans Deukomi) each notched a first and second-place standing on the afternoon. Feneron won the 100 fly (59.67) and placed second in the 200 IM (2:12.25) while Mushtei took first in the 100 breast (1:10.26) and second in the 500 free (5:12.91).

Christina Petrelis (Belle Mead, N.J./Montgomery) finished second in the 1000 free (11:03.89) and third in both the 100 fly (1:02.43) and the 500 free (5:27.64), Karen Castaneda (Woodbridge, N.J./Woodbridge) (1000 free, 11:07.36), Nowras Halag (Shknin, Israel/Hofsharon) (100 breast, 1:11.94) and Rachel Wuko (Wildwood Crest, N.J./Wildwood Catholic) (200 free, 1:59.23) each ended third in an event for the Peacocks.

The relay team of Samardzic, Mushtei, Feneron and Wuko won the 200-medley relay (1:47.76) while the quartet of Wuko, Castaneda, Gloria Morales (St. Croix, Virgin Islands/The Good Hope School) and Halag placed second in the 200-free relay (1:46.80).

On the men's side, Nicholas Riepe (Middlesex, N.J./Saint Joseph) recorded second-place standings in the 1000 free (9:41.64) and the 500 free (4:43.01) while Thomas Calloni (Jersey City, N.J./Saint Peter's Prep) finished second in the 100 free (50.03).

Eliran Epstein (Nahariya, Israel/Wester Galilee Regional) placed third in the 50 free (22.08), Manuel Garcia (Mexico City, Mexico/The American School Foundation was third in the 100 fly (51.14), Jake Schroth (Leesburg, Va./Heritage) ended third in the 100 free (50.22), Daniel Gayetsky (East Brunswick, N.J./East Brunswick) was third in the 500 free (4:53.52) and Bence Greifenstein (Budapest, Hungary/Kerek) placed third in the 100 breast (58.58).

The tandem of Gomez, Greifenstein, Garcia and Igal Oren (Jersey City, N.J./Ort Kiryar Bialik) finished second in the 200-medley relay (1:35.15) while the quartet of Schroth, Calloni, Alejandro Rubin (Caracas, Venezuela/San Ignacio) and Paolo Jimenez (Bayonne, N.J./Bayonne) were credit with the win in the 200-free relay (1:34.27) after Bridgeport exhibitioned the event.

Saint Peter's honored its senior class prior to the meet.

Bridgeport won on the women's side 114-82 while Bridgeport took a 121.5-75.5 win on the men's side.

The Peacocks return to action at the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Swimming & Diving Championships on Feb. 11-14.
