Box Score RIVERDALE, N.Y. - Manhattan defeated Saint Peter's 3-0 in Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) women's volleyball action on Sunday. The Jaspers took the sets by scores of 25-8, 25-15 and 25-22.
Lauren Behrens (Frankfort, Ill./Lincoln-Way East) paced the Peacocks (3-13, 1-6 MAAC) with 17 digs and four kills. Kaitlyn Sitton (Brush Praire, Wash./Praire) notched her second-straight double-double with 13 assists and 12 digs while Amanda Colombo (Wallington, N.J./Wallington) added 10 digs and four kills in the loss.
Claire Van Dyk powered the Jaspers (11-9, 5-2 MAAC) with 18 digs and 11 kills. Alyssa Rehrer added 15 digs and Milena Janjusevic tallied nine kills and six digs in the winning effort.
One day after Saint Peter's rallied from two sets down for a 3-2 win against Iona, Manhattan did not give the Peacocks a chance to rally after winning the match in straight sets.
Manhattan went on runs of 5-1, 8-0 and 4-0 while Saint Peter's could not win back-to-back points in the first set and the Jaspers took the first set by score of 25-8.
In the second set, the Peacocks won three of the first four points of the set to jump out to a 3-1 lead thanks to a pair of attack errors and a Colombo ace. Manhattan then went on a 9-2 lead to take the lead for good in the set at 10-5. Saint Peter's stayed close in the set, but with the Jaspers holding an 18-15 Manhattan won the final seven points to take the set 25-15.
The Peacocks jumped out to a 12-8 margin in the third set. The Jaspers then went on a 8-0 run to take a 16-12 advantage. Saint Peter's trimmed the margin to 18-17 and battled back and forth over the next six points. With Manhattan holding a 21-20 edge, the Jaspers won the next two points and four of the last six points to earn a 25-22 third-set win to clinch the match.
The Peacocks return to action on Wednesday at NJIT. Game time is 7 p.m.
