The Seawolves Rallied Past Saint Peter's Women's Basketball On Friday

JERSEY CITY, NJ - The Seawolves rallied past the Peacocks 69-35 in women's basketball action on Friday. 

Talah Hughes (Beacon, N.Y. / Beacon) and Bridget Whitfield (San Diego, Calif. / La Costa Canyon) paced the Peacocks, each scoring eight points. Hughes tallied three rebounds while Whitfield added three rebounds and one assist. Hala Mostafa (Cairo, Egypt / Modern Narmer Language School) tallied ten rebounds.

The Seawolves took the lead early in the first quarter with a 3-pointer by Kori Bayne-Walker. Whitfield of the Peacocks hit a jump shot immediately after, bringing the score to 2-3. The teams rallied until the Seawolves went on a 12-0 run beginning at the 6-minute mark. The Peacocks could not close the deficit, leaving the score at 6-20 at the end of the first quarter. 

Neither team scored for the first four minutes of the second quarter until Ogechi Anyagaligbo of the Seawolves made a layup. Hala Mostafa of the Peacocks hit a jump shot, bringing the score to 8-22. A 7-0 run pulled the Peacocks closer to the Seawolves toward the end of the second quarter. Saint Peter's trailed by ten at the start of the second half. 

Sajanna Bethea (Levittown, Pa. / Pennsbury) began the third quarter with a 2-pointer, bringing the deficit to eight. A made layup and a free throw by Kori Bayne-Walker put the Seawolves ahead by 14. The Peacocks decreased the gap with a layup by Talah Hughes, but a 6-0 run by the Seawolves put them far ahead at the 6-minute mark. A 3-pointer by Hughes brought the deficit back to 12. Britney Snow of the Seawolves pulled the deficit to 16 in the final minute of the third quarter with two free throws. The Peacocks ended the quarter trailing by 18.

With the score 45-27, the two teams stopped each other from scoring until Ogechi Anaygaligbo made a free throw followed by another made free throw by Christa Scognamiglio of the Seawolves, bringing the deficit to 20. 

With a little over three minutes to play, Alyssa Velles hit a 3-pointer, her second field goal of the night. The Peacocks made several attempts to close the deficit with little luck. The Seawolves pulled away with a final score of 35-69.

Brittany Snow led for the Seawolves with 19 points, five rebounds, and two assists. Davion Wingate tallied 15 points, five rebounds, and and two assists while Kori Bayne-Walker added 10 points and three assists.

The Peacocks will battle the Saint Francis Brooklyn Terriers on Sunday at home.
