Bridget Whitfield Powered Saint Peter's To Victory With 18 Points

Bridget Whitfield (San Diego, Calif. / La Costa Canyon) powered the Peacocks to victory with 18 points, seven rebounds, and two assists in non-conference women's basketball action on Wednesday.

Whitfield had a .500 field goal percentage and made four of four shots from the free throw line.

Five Peacocks scored in the double digits. Talah Hughes (Beacon, N.Y. / Beacon) keyed 16 points and three rebounds while Hala Mostafa (Cairo, Egypt / Modern Narmer Language School) tallied 14 points, seven rebounds, and two assists. Alyssa Velles (Franklin, Conn. / Norwich Free Academy) tallied 11 points and four rebounds while Marcia Senatus (Roselle, N.J. / Trenton Catholic) followed with 10 points, five rebounds, and four assists.

Sajanna Bethea (Levittown, Pa. / Pennsbury) hit both her free throws three minutes into the first quarter. Erika Steeves of Brown went to the free throw line twenty seconds later. Velles hit a three-pointer with six minutes and 46 seconds left in the first quarter, bringing the score to 5-2. Jordin Alexander of Brown later hit a jumper. The teams rallied back and forth for the remainder of the quarter, ending with Brown leading 13-12. 

Velles opened the second quarter with a three-pointer. Kennedy Martin of Brown tied the game at 15-15. Talah Hughes followed with a layup. Megan Reilly hit a three-pointer at the 8:18 mark. Taylor Will of Brown recorded her first field goal of the game, bringing the score to 20-17 with Brown leading. The Peacocks regained the lead after Mostafa drove to the hole and made a layup with five minutes left in the second quarter. Taylor Will hit both her free throws after being fouled by Marcia Senatus, putting Brown back in the lead. The teams went back and forth, ending the second half with the Peacocks leading 27-26.

Kennedy Martin opened up the third quarter with a field goal. Senatus later hit a three-pointer, bringing the score to 30-29. Samantha Meier (Manalapan, N.J. / Manalapan) recorded her first field goal of the game at the 8:23 mark in the third quarter. Two free throws by Erika Steeves of the Bears put the score at 37-37. Rebecca Sparks (Teaneck, N.J. / Teaneck (Saint Francis)) and Bridget Whitfield keyed a 6-0 run with two three-pointers, pulling the score to 43-37. Whitfield later hit another three, putting the Peacocks up by 10 with under a minute left in the third quarter. The Peacocks pulled away, ending the quarter 53-41.

Rebecca Musgrove of Brown started the fourth quarter with a jump shot, starting a 5-0 run. Velles later hit a three-pointer. Field goals by Whitfield, Mostafa, and Hughes pulled the Peacocks up by 15. The Brown Bears keyed a 12-0 run in the fourth quarter, bringing the score to 69-65. The Peacocks were able to pull away at the end of the fourth quarter, defeating the Brown Bears 79-67. 

Jordin Alexander paced the Brown Bears with 17 points, seven rebounds, and two assists. Rebecca Musgrove recorded 12 points, six rebounds and two assists while Kennedy Martin tallied 11 points and five rebounds.

The Peacocks will host the Iona Gaels on Monday.
