Texas A&M-Corpus Christi Rallies Past Saint Peter's Baseball, 8-5

CORPUS CHRISTI, TEXAS – Texas A&M-Corpus Christi scored three runs in the seventh inning to defeat Saint Peter's 8-5 in non-conference baseball action on Sunday.

Chris Hugg (Ironia, N.J./Randolph) led the way with a two-run homer and three RBIs while Jon Kristoffersen (Jefferson, N.J./Jefferson Township) posted two hits and a run scored for the Peacocks (0-3) and Rob Moore (Longwood, N.Y./Ridge) added a hit and two runs scored in the loss.

Jordan Lee paced the Islanders (3-0) with three hits and two RBIs. Cody Clarke added two hits and two runs scored and Brett Burner had a hit, a run scored and two RBIs in the winning effort.

In a seesaw battle, Texas &M-Corpus Christi broke a 5-all standstill with three runs in the seventh to earn the 8-5 victory and complete the three-game sweep against Saint Peter's

After Hugg tied the game at 5 on a two-run homer in the sixth, Justin Perales doubled home a run, Burner coaxed a bases loaded walk and Lukas Hermanson hit a sacrifice fly for a three-run seventh and an 8-5 lead.

Saint Peter's started the game with a three-run first to take a 3-0 advantage. Hugg started the rally with a bases loaded walk to bring home the first run before Jose Martinez (Brown Mills, N.J./Remberton Township) plated a run on an RBI single to right field and the third run scored on a double play.

The Islanders answered with two runs in the third on RBI doubles by Lee and Tyler Ware before the host added three runs in the fourth to grab a 5-3 edge. Casey Thomas hit a sacrifice fly, Burner smacked an RBI single to center and Lee singled hit an RBI single to right to account for Texas A&M-Corpus Christi's three runs in the fourth.

Hugg then smacked a 3-1 pitch over the right field fence for an opposite field two-run homer to even the game at 5 in the sixth, but the Islanders scored three times in the seventh to earn the victory.

Mark Wilson (Clark, N.J./Arthur L. Johnson) took the loss for Saint Peter's.

Mike Ionata (Westfield, N.J./Westfield) made his collegiate debut for the Peacocks.

Saint Peter's returns to action at Murray State to start a four-game series on Feb. 28. First pitch is 3 p.m.
