JERSEY CITY, N.J. – Fairleigh Dickinson defeated Saint Peter's 6-1 in a non-conference men's tennis matchup on Wednesday.
The Knights started off the afternoon winning all three doubles contests. The team of Arvis Berzins and Gonzalo Quintana defeated Carlos Carrera (Quito, Ecuador / APCH) and Daniil Ivanov (Rostov-On-Don, Russia / [UMKC]), 8-7 (4). Jorge Rodriguez (Havana, Cuba / Elizabeth) and Andres-Sebastian Rojas (Quito, Ecuador / Centebad) was defeated by the duo of Jacob Whalley and Adam Chan, 8-1. Luke Whaley (California / La Costa Canyon) and Jonathan Paredes (North Bergen, N.J. / North Bergen) were defeated in third doubles, 8-2.
In first singles, Berzins defeated Carrera in straight sets, 6-4, 6-4. Ivanov was lone singles winner for the Peacocks, defeating Whalley in three sets, 3-6, 6-4, 11-9. In third singles, Rodriguez was defeated by Chen, 6-7 (6), 6-3, 10-2. Quintana defeated Whaley in fourth singles, 6-1, 6-0. Both Rojas and Paredes lost in their singles matchups.
Saint Peter's returns to action on Feb. 28, when the team opens up MAAC play at home against Fairfield. Opening serve is set for 1 p.m.
