JERSEY CITY, N.J. – Madeleine Feeney (Jersey City, N.J./Saint Dominic Academy), a member of the Saint Peter's women's track and field team was honored at the 23rd annual New Jersey National Girls and Women in Sports Day awards luncheon on Sunday at the Richard Regan Athletics and Recreation Center at Seton Hall.
Feeney, a senior local product from Jersey City, N.J., has been a member on the Saint Peter's women's track and field team for four years competing in the throwing events. She has been an active member in the Saint Peter's community as a member of the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC), including being one of the Saint Peter's representative at the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference SAAC meeting at Walt Disney World in the fall semester.
National Girls and Women in Sports Day celebrates the athletic achievements of women and the positive well-being associated with sports participation while also recognizing the continuing struggle for equality for women in sports. Chartered by the U.S. Congress in 1986, National Girls and Women in Sports Day is honored in all 50 states.
Approximately 150 student-athletes from New Jersey's high schools, colleges and universities were honored at the celebration. One of the largest events in the state to recognize women's athletics, approximately 800 people were expected to attend the festivities.
