JERSEY CITY, N.J. – Providence defeated Saint Peter's 6-1 in a non-conference women's tennis matchup on Saturday.
Saint Peter's was able to take one of six singles matches against Rhode Island. In No. 3, Elena Melian Puigventos (Gran Canaria, Spain / Canlebury School of las Palmas) defeated Peacock, 6-1, 6-2.
The Rams opened up winning all three of their doubles matches. The team of Taylor Holden and Anna Peacock defeated Adina Ungurean-Halagian (Bucharest, Romania / Schiller International School) and Lucia Radovic (Zadar, Crotia / Skola Primientiene Umietnosti Dizajna) 8-4. Kathleen Uy and Nithila Asokaraj won their doubles match against the team of Puigventos and Mali Hedberg (Oxnard, Calif. / Oxnard [Eastern Washington]) 9-8. Elizaveta Savodnikova and Jordan Rucks won their doubles contest, 8-2.
In No. 1 singles, Holden defeated Halagian, 6-4, 6-2. Uy defeated Radovic 6-2, 6-1. Savodnikova defeated Claudia Hellman (Madrid, Spain / Scandinavian School [Brevard]) in two sets. Christian Resurreccion (Jersey City, N.J. / McNair Academy) was defeated in straight sets, 6-2, 6-1.
Saint Peter's returns to action on Feb. 14, when they host Atlantic-10 opponent La Salle. Match time is set for 1 p.m.
