Saint Peter's Softball Drops Two On Opening Day Of Rebel Games

WINTER HAVEN, Fla.  – The Saint Peter's softball team opened up the 2015 season at the Rebel Games on Tuesday.  

The Peacocks (0-2) dropped two non-conference games, losing to Creighton (9-2) and Northern Illinois (3-1). 

In the morning contest against Creighton, Stacey Klempel (Winter Garden, Fla. / Ocoee [Indian River State]) went 3-for-3 with three stolen bases in her Saint Peter's debut. Samantha Storms (Lake Geneva, Wis. / William Bay) tallied one hit, one run and two RBI. Kirsten Kelley (Seaford, N.Y. / General Douglas McArthur) finished with one hit, one run and a walk in her first game in a Saint Peter's uniform.

Liz Dike paced the Bluejays with three hits, two runs and two RBIs. Tash Coffiel-Nelson tallied two hits the win. 

In the opener, the Bluejays scored the game's first eight runs through three innings.

Creighton got on the board in the first inning off a solo homerun to centerfield by Dike. 

The Bluejays added three more runs in the second inning. Jen Daro stole home after a Peacocks error that allowed Daro to round the bases. Paige Nekola scored on a pitching error after coming in to pinch run for Anna O'Gorman. The third run came from Coffiel-Nelson, who scored off a wild pitch.

Creighton scored four more times in the third inning. With runners on first and second, Allie Reinhart doubled through the left side to advance Erin McGonigal home. Bri McMahon scored later in the inning off a single down the left field line from O'Gorman. Coffiel-Nelson scored her second run of the contest off a single from Kelsey Allender. 

Saint Peter's got its first two scores of the season in the fourth inning. Following a drawn walk from Kelley to advance to first base, Storms hit her first homerun of the season to left center to cut into the Creighton lead. 

Creighton scored one more time in the fourth inning following another solo homerun from Dike en route to the 9-2 win. 

In the afternoon slate, the Huskies took a 2-0 lead in the first inning following a pass ball and a RBI single in centerfield.  

The Peacocks got its first score in the fourth inning, following a RBI single from Candice Koch (Orland Park, Ill. / Carl Sandburg) that allowed Jillian Silvanic (Owego, N.Y. / Owego Free Academy) to round the bases. 

Northern Illinois added insurance in the fifth inning with a score to outlast the Peacocks, 3-1.

Saint Peter's returns to the diamond on Mar. 12 with a double-dip against Bucknell (10 a.m.) and Creighton (2:30 p.m.).
