Box Score 2 WINTER HAVEN, Fla. – The Saint Peter's softball team continued its play at the Rebel Games with a Sunday doubleheader.
In the morning tilt, the Peacocks (1-7) dropped a 7-2 decision to South Dakota.
Saint Peter's got on the board in the opening inning. Lee Harrison (Las Vegas, Nev. / Coronado) began the inning with a leadoff double. Two batters later, Nicole Olmedo (Chino, Calif. / Chino) hit a RBI-double to advance Harrison around the bases for the 1-0 lead.
The Peacocks added another score in the second inning. Francesca D'Amato (Lyndhurst, N.J. / Immaculate Conception) reached first on an infield single. D'Amato would steal consecutive bases to reach third before a RBI-single from Taylor Corretjer (Thiells, N.Y. / North Rockland) sent her home for the 2-0 edge.
South Dakota rallied back in the third inning, scoring four runs to take the lead and not look back. The Yotes scored two runs in the fourth inning and another run in the fifth inning for the victory.
The second game of the doubleheader featured a contest against Valparaiso.
Saint Peter's got things going in the first inning with another leadoff double from Harrison. Two batters later, Olmedo hit a single down the right field line to reach base and advance the runner. Following at-bat, Samantha Storms (Lake Geneva, Wis. / William Bay) hit a bases-clearing homerun to give the Peacocks a 3-0 lead.
Valparaiso countered in the bottom of the inning with a three-run homerun to tie the contest, 3-3. The Crusaders took the lead in the third inning with a RBI-base hit and added two more runs in the fourth and fifth innings to take an 8-3 lead.
The Peacocks cut into the deficit in the sixth inning. Kirsten Kelley (Seaford, N.Y. / General Douglas McArthur) drew a leadoff walk followed by a stolen base. D'Amato drew a walk to put runners on second and third. Next at-bat, Crystal Carlucci (Iselin, N.J. / John F. Kennedy Memorial) knocked in the RBI-single. Later in the inning, Corretjer drew an RBI-walk to add another score.
Valparaiso added insurance in the bottom of the inning with two runs to hold off Saint Peter's, 10-5.
The Peacocks return to action tomorrow with a twinbill against Albany (10:00 a.m.) and Wisconsin-Green Bay (12:15 p.m.).
