JERSEY CITY, N.J. – LIU Brooklyn defeated Saint Peter's 4-2 in a non-conference women's tennis contest on Friday.
The Blackbirds began the afternoon winning both doubles contests. LIU Brooklyn won its first doubles contest 8-6 and the following contest 8-3.
In No. 1 singles, Adina Ungurean-Halagian (Bucharest, Romania / Schiller International School) was defeated by Sanne Louwers, 6-3, 6-1. Marine Dans won a 6-0, 6-1 decision over Mali Hedberg (Oxnard, Calif. / Oxnard [Eastern Washington]) in No. 2 singles. In No. 3 singles, Nancy Zonneveld defeated Elena Melian Puigventos (Gran Canaria, Spain / Canlebury School of las Palmas) in three sets, 6-4, 3-6, 7-6 (7-4).
Saint Peter's picked up points in both No. 4 and No. 5 singles. Lucia Radovic (Zadar, Crotia / Skola Primientiene Umietnosti Dizajna) defeated Juweria Hussain in two sets, 6-0, 6-1. Christian Resurreccion (Jersey City, N.J. / McNair Academy) won her singles matchup by default.
The Peacocks return to action on Mar. 22, when the team restarts league play against Niagara.
