Saint Louis Takes Two From Saint Peter's Baseball

SAULGET, ILL. – Saint Louis swept a non-conference baseball doubleheader against Saint Peter's on Friday. The Bilikens took the opener 13-4 and then won the nightcap, 12-1.

Nick Henriquez (Paramus, N.J./Paramus) and Vinny Maietta (Franklin Square, N.Y./St. Marys) each posted a hit and an RBI for the Peacocks (0-5) in the loss.

Alex King paced the Bilikens (6-6) with three hits, three RBIs and three runs scored while Braxton Martinez added two hits, a run scored and four RBIs and Trent Leimkuehler posted two hits, three RBIs and a run scored in the twin bill sweep.

Saint Louis scored the first 13 runs of the opener before Saint Peter's crossed four runs across in the ninth. The Bilikens scored in five of the eight innings en route to its 13 runs.

In the final frame, James Spadaccini (Butler, N.J./Butler) reached on an error, Rob Moore (Ridge, N.Y./Longwood) walked and Chris Hugg (Ironia, N.J./Randolph) singled up the middle to load the bases. Michael Wulff (Madison, N.J./Madison) coaxed a bases loaded walk to plate Spadaccini and Henriquez brought home Moore when he was hit by the pitch. After Zach Rawson (Ashburn, Va./Broad Run) hit into a double play to bring home Hugg with the third run, Maietta plated Wulff on a double down the left field line to cap the four-run inning. 

Saint Louis took the nightcap 12-1 and the game went similar to the first contest of the day after the Bilikens scored in five of the seven innings and the Peacocks scored a run in the final frame.

In the seventh, Mike Ionata (Westfield, N.J./Westfield) walked, moved to second on Tommy Toole's (Manasquan, N.J./Manasquan) walk and to third on a fielder's choice before he touched home on Jon Kristoffersen's (Jefferson, N.J./Jefferson Township) ground out.

Mike Doran (Asbury, N.J./Saint Peter's Prep) took the loss in the opener and AJ Celentano (South Plainfield, N.J./South Plainfield) took the loss in the second game.

The two teams will complete the four-game series on Saturday with a doubleheader starting at 5 p.m.
