NESCHANIC STATION, N.J. – Brian Grubbs (Cortez, Colo./Montezuma Cortez) earned medalist honors to lead the Saint Peter's men's golf team to the Peacock Invitational title on Tuesday.
Grubbs, who is the March Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Men's Golfer of the Month, finished in a five-way tie for the top spot after carding a round of 71. After the tiebreakers were settled, Grubbs earned the medalist honor for the event after his one-under par round of 71.
Nicholas Dilio (Hopewell Junction, N.Y./John Jay) (12th place, 73), Eric Edmunds (Skaneateles, N.Y./Skaneateles) (20th place, 74), Brandon Molson (Westfield, N.J./Westfield) (20th place, 74) and Dominic Diaz (Bridgewater, N.J./Bridgewater-Raritan) (24th place, 75) competed in the event as members of the five participants for the team.
The Peacocks finished with a score of 292 to win its home tournament by one stroke over Fairleigh Dickinson (293) and Fairfield (293) while Rider (295) and Hofstra (296) rounded out the Top-5 teams in the field.
Sean Trainor (White Plains, N.Y./White Plains) (58th place, 83), Steven Competiello (Staten Island, N.Y./Saint Peter's Boys) (58th place, 83) and Rich Jakubowski (Howell, N.J./Howell) (66th place, 93) each competed in the event as individuals.
Saint Peter's has now won two of its last three events after winning the Coca-Cola Bottling Company of Lehigh Valley Collegiate Invitational and the Peacock Invitational while finishing third in an highly-competed field at the Til Duty Is Done Collegiate Invitational.
The Peacocks head to the Monmouth Invitational for the final tune up before looking to defend its MAAC Men's Golf Championship. Saint Peter's won the event as a team and Grubbs was the medalist at last year's event.
