DEAL, N.J. – Eric Edmunds (Skaneateles, N.Y./Skaneateles) finished third to pace the Saint Peter's men's golf team to a second-place finish at the Monmouth Invitational on Thursday.
In the final tune up before the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Men's Golf Championships, Edmunds posted a round of 73 to finish two strokes behind the medalist in third place.
Fresh off his medalist honors at the Peacock Invitational on Tuesday, March MAAC Men's Golfer of the Month Brian Grubbs (Cortez, Colo./Montezuma Cortez) finished one stroke behind Edmunds with a 74 in fifth place while Nicholas Dilio (Hopewell Junction, N.Y./John Jay) placed eighth with a round of 75. Brandon Molson (Westfield, N.J./Westfield) finished 12th after posting a 76 to help the Peacocks post four scores in the 70 as a team.
Steven Competiello (Staten Island, N.Y./Saint Peter's Boys) (32nd place, 98) also participated in the event as one of the Saint Peter's five team competitors while Sean Trainor (White Plains, N.Y./White Plains (12th place, 76) competed in the event as an individual.
Iona won the one-day invitational with a total of 296, two strokes ahead of Saint Peter's (298) while Monmouth (300), Fairfield (303) and Manhattan (310) also participated in the event.
The Peacocks finished the spring 16-1 against league teams in the spring and have posted rounds under 300 in five of its last six rounds. In its last four events, Saint Peter's has won two events and registered a second and third-place standings.
After playing four tournaments in the last 10 days, the Peacocks have eight days to prepare to defend its MAAC Tournament title. Saint Peter's won its first circuit title last year by three strokes over Fairfield and Monmouth. The MAAC Men's Golf Championships will take place at the Disney Magnolia Course in Lake Buena Vista, Fla., on Apr. 24-26.
