Saint Peter's Softball Drops Two At Columbia

NEW YORK, N.Y. – Columbia swept Saint Peter's in a non-conference softball doubleheader on Thursday. The Lions won the opener 1-0 and then defeated the Peacocks in the nightcap, 10-2. 

Francesca D'Amato (Lyndhurst, N.J. / Immaculate Conception) paced Saint Peter's (1-27) with two hits, one RBI and one run scored. Samantha Storms (Lake Geneva, Wis. / William Bay) finished with two hits and one RBI while Taylor Corretjer (Thiells, N.Y. / North Rockland) and Chelsea Crews (Seattle, Wash. / Mountlake Terrace) each added a hit in the twinbill.

Alix Cook fueled the Lions (13-21) with five hits, two runs and one RBI. Shelby Unger recorded three hits, four RBIs and one run scored in the sweep. 

In the opener, Columbia used a walk-off hit in the bottom of the sixth to pick up the 1-0 victory.

With a runner on third with two outs, Cook singled to center field to score the runner to secure the victory. 

Saint Peter's was limited to just two hits in the contest, coming in the second and fifth innings. 

Crystal Carlucci (Iselin, N.J. / John F. Kennedy Memorial) took the loss on the mound, despite holding Columbia to one run on six hits with two strikeouts.

In the nightcap, Columbia got things going offensively to defeat Saint Peter's 10-2 in five innings. 

Saint Peter's took a 1-0 lead in the first inning. Nicole Olmedo (Chino, Calif. / Chino) kicked off the inning with a walk and a stolen base. Following a groundout that advanced Olmedo to third, Storms doubled to left field to score the run.

Columbia countered with two runs in the bottom of the inning. After loading up bases, Unger hit into a fielder's choice, scoring two runners to take the lead. 

The Lions added four runs in the second inning. Jackie Li scored from third base off a wild pitch followed by a three-run double by Unger to take a 6-1 advantage.

Saint Peter's cut into the deficit in the fourth inning with a run from D'Amato before a pair of two run innings in the fourth and fifth innings from the Lions secured a 10-2 victory. 

Tori Feorenzo (Paramus, N.J. / Paramus) took the loss in the nightcap.

Saint Peter's returns to action on Apr. 18 when they return to Jaroschak Field for a six-game homestand beginning with Monmouth. First pitch is set for 12 p.m.
