Box Score 2 LEWISTOWN, N.Y. – Niagara swept the Saint Peter's softball team in a MAAC doubleheader on Sunday. Niagara won the opener 4-3 and defeated the Peacocks in the second game 7-6.
Samantha Storms (Lake Geneva, Wis. / William Bay) paced the Peacocks (2-36, 1-17 MAAC) with four hits, three RBIs and one run scored. Nicole Olmedo (Chino, Calif. / Chino) finished with four hits, one RBI and three runs scored in the twinbill.
Sarah March powered Niagara (4-32, 4-10 MAAC) with five hits, four RBIs and two runs scored. Briana Clark tallied three hits and three runs scored in the sweep.
The Purples scored the game-winning run on a hit-by-pitch to take the opener 4-3.
Niagara got on the board first in the inning. With runners on first and second, Sarah March singled up the middle to score Brianna Clark for the 1-0 lead.
Saint Peter's knotted the game in the fifth inning, following an RBI-single to left from Storms to score Nicole Feoli (Burlington Twp, N.J. / Burlington) from second base.
The Purples Eagles countered with two runs in the bottom of the inning with a pair of bases loaded walks from Victoria Bretz and Ally Gay for the 3-1 lead.
The Peacocks tied the game in the top the seventh, fueled by a two-run single from Storms to send the game to extra innings.
Tori Feorenzo (Paramus, N.J. / Paramus) took the loss on the mound in the opener.
In the second game, Niagara scored runs throughout to hold off the Peacocks 7-6.
Saint Peter's took a 1-0 lead in the first inning following an RBI single from Storms to score Candice Koch (Orland Park, Ill. / Carl Sandburg) from third.
Niagara countered with a run in the bottom of the inning with a single to left field from March to score the runner from third base.
The Peacocks regained the lead in the third inning. After reaching first and stealing second, Olmedo stole third base and was able to advance home following a Niagara throwing error. Later in the inning, following a walk and stolen base from Lee Harrison (Las Vegas, Nev. / Coronado), Francesca D'Amato (Lyndhurst, N.J. / Immaculate Conception) singled to left to score Harrison for the 3-1 lead.
The Purples Eagles countered with three runs in the bottom of the inning, following a bases-clearing double from Bretz for the 4-3 lead.
Niagara added two runs in the fourth inning, following an RBI single from Chanelle Ward and a sacrifice fly from March.
Saint Peter's cut into the deficit with back-to-back RBI singles from D'Amato and Chelsea Crews (Seattle, Wash. / Mountlake Terrace).
The Purples scored a run in the sixth inning off a base hit from Gay to score Alexandra Moore.
The Peacocks got back a run in the sixth inning off a single from Olmedo, but were Niagara was able to hold on for the 7-6 win.
Feorenzo picked the loss on the mound in the second game.
Saint Peter's returns to action on Apr. 29, when the team returns to Jaroschak Field for a double dip against Delaware. First pitch is slated for 3 p.m.
