UMBC Downs Saint Peter's Baseball, 11-6

BALTIMORE, Md. – UMBC defeated Saint Peter's 11-6 in non-conference baseball action on Friday.

Nick Henriquez (Paramus, N.J./Paramus) paced the Peacocks (2-16-1) with three hits, including a solo home run. Nick Ciocco (Cherry Hill, N.J./Cherry Hill) added a hit, a run scored and two RBIs while Michael Wulff (Madison, N.J./Madison) posted two hits, an RBI and a run scored in the loss.

Hunter Dolshun powered the Retrievers (11-10) with a 4-for-4 performance with three RBIs and three runs scored. Vince Corbi added two hits, four RBIs and a run scored while Anthony Gatto posted two hits and three runs scored in the winning effort.

UMBC scored the first 11 runs of the game before Saint Peter's attempted to mount a rally in the ninth that fell short in the first game of a three-game series.

Dolshun got the scoring started with an RBI single to center field in the first inning for a 1-0 advantage.

In the sixth, Dolshun added an RBI double to left center and then scored on a wild pitch to increase the Retrievers lead to 3-0.

UMBC scored four times in the seventh to increase the advantage to 7-0. Andrew Casali hit a sacrifice fly to start the rally before Corbi smacked a two-run double to right center and Connor Hax doubled home a run to cap the inning.

The Retrievers put a four spot in the eight to increase the margin to 11-0.  After two runs came home on Dolshun's single to center field, Corbi brought the final two runs home for UMBC with an RBI single to center.

The Peacocks scored six times in the ninth to set the final score at 11-6. Henriquez opened the scoring for Saint Peter's with his first homer of the season and third of his career to left center to start the stanza. Jose Martinez (Brown Mills, N.J./Remberton Township) then doubled to center before Chris Hugg (Ironia, N.J./Randolph) singled to left to put runners on the corners. Wulff plated the squad's second run on a double to center and Hugg touched home on Sean Henry's (Brick, N.J./Brick Township) sacrifice fly to left. After James Spadaccini (Butler, N.J./Butler) singled to put runners on the corners, Ciocco plated both runners on a double to center and Jon Kristoffersen (Jefferson, N.J./Jefferson Township) capped the six-run stanza with an RBI single to right.

John Leiter (Toms River, N.J./Toms River South) took the loss for Saint Peter's. 

The two teams conclude the three-game series on Saturday with a doubleheader starting at 11 a.m.
