Box Score QUEENS, N.Y. – St. John's defeated Saint Peter's 6-4 in non-conference baseball action on Tuesday evening.
Nick Henriquez (Paramus, N.J./Paramus) paced the Peacocks (9-36-1) with a two hits, including a two-run homer. Chris Hugg (Ironia, N.J./Randolph) added two hits, an a run scored while Sean Henry (Brick, N.J./Brick Township) and Jon Kristoffersen (Jefferson, N.J./Jefferson Township) each had a hit and an RBI in the loss.
Jesse Berardi led the Red Storm (33-14) with a hit, an RBI and a run scored while Michael Donadio scored two runs in the winning effort.
St. John's erased a 2-1 deficit with four unanswered runs to never look back and sweep the season series against Saint Peter's after the Red Storm edged the Peacocks 3-2 on Mar. 24.
After Saint Peter's took a 2-1 lead with RBIs by Henry and Kristoffersen in the fourth, St. John's took the lead for good with two runs in the bottom of the stanza on a Anthony Brocato RBI single to left field and a Tyler Sanchez run-scoring double to center field for a 3-2 lead.
The Red Storm increased its lead to three runs in the fifth after Berardi hit an RBI single through the left side and Robbie Knighties plated a run on a sacrifice fly to center for a 5-2 lead.
The Peacocks answered with two runs in the seventh. Hugg reached on an infield single to third base and came around to score on Henriquez's two-run homer to cut the margin to 5-4.
St. John's added an insurance run in the bottom of the inning on a Zach Lauricella sacrifice fly to set the final score at 6-4.
After Henriquez's homer, the Red Storm retired the final eight batters to secure the win.
St. John's jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the second on an RBI infield base hit by Knighties.
Saint Peter's responded with two runs in the fourth to take a 2-1 lead. Henriquez started the rally with a single up the middle before Zach Rawson (Ashburn, Va./Broad Run) singled to center. Michael Wulff (Madison, N.J./Madison) walked to load the bases before Henry reached on an fielder's choice to plate Henriquez and tie the game. Rawson touched home on Kristoffersen's RBI single up the middle to give the Peacocks its only lead of the evening. The Red Storm then scored the next four runs to take the lead it would not relinquish on its way to a 6-4 win.
Mike Doran (Ashbury, N.J./Saint Peter's Prep) took the loss for Saint Peter's. Tommy Toole (Manasquan, N.Y./Manasquan) pitched well in relief, allowing one run on three hits with two strikeouts.
The Peacocks will conclude its season with a three-game series against Marist this weekend.
