Saint Peter's Men's Golf Heads To NCAA New Haven Regional Starting On Thursday

opening tee… Saint Peter's makes its second NCAA Men's Golf Championship Regionals appearance after winning the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Men's Golf Championship for the second-straight year on Apr. 26. The Peacocks participated in the NCAA Sugar Grove Regional last season.

the field… Saint Peter's is seeded as the No. 14 team in the region that also features Vanderbilt, LSU, South Florida, Oklahoma State, Arkansas San Diego State, Iowa, North Carolina State, Ohio State, Troy, North Texas, College of Charleston and Robert Morris. The Peacocks will be paired with Robert Morris and the five individuals in the first round.

saint peter's and the course at yale... Seniors Eric Edmunds and Brian Grubbs have played the Course at Yale once in their collegiate career. During their freshman year, the duo played the course  in the Yale Opener on Apr. 7, 2012. Grubbs finished with a two-round score of 158 while Edmunds carded a 159 to help the Peacocks to an eighth-place standing.

saint peter's and connecticut... Saint Peter's will be competing in the state of Connecticut for the fourth time this season after participating in the ECAC Championships, the Connecticut Cup and the Til Duty Is Done Invitational this season. 

university winning ways... Dating back to the 2010-11 campaign, Saint Peter's University has posted nine conference titles. The Peacocks men's soccer and men's basketball won the MAAC title in 2010-11. That year also started the string of three-straight MAAC Indoor Track & Field titles and two-straight Outdoor Track & Field Championships for the women's team. The men's golf team has won the lone title for the University in the last two years.

how we got here… Nicholas Dilio finished tied for the tournament low score and lost in a one-hole playoff to finish second, but Saint Peter's earned its second-straight MAAC  Men's Golf Championship on Apr. 26. The Peacocks placed three players in the Top-7 and four in the Top-11 in the tournament. Dilio held the lead for most of the final round and maintained a two-shot margin going into the final three holes. The junior birdied 16, but then bogeyed 17 and double bogeyed 18 to finish with in a three-round tie with Iona's Kevin Kramarski with an even-par score of 216. The duo then played a one-hole playoff for medalist honors and Kramarski won the hole to earn the honors.   Coming into the final round with a 17-stroke lead on Iona, Saint Peter's shot its highest score in the event with a 304, but the Gaels could not overcome the deficit to give the Peacocks a nine-stroke victory and earn its second-straight title. Saint Peter's finished with a total of 885, the best three-round team total at the championships in team history. Brian Grubbs, who entered the final round with a one-stroke lead on Dilio, finished third with a three-round score of 219, the fourth-best three-round score in team history at the championships. Eric Edmunds finished seventh after carding a 224 in the three rounds. The senior recorded a 74 in the final round to go along with his 73 in the first round and 77 in the second round.  Dilio, Grubbs and Edmunds all earned All-MAAC recognition after finishing in the Top-10 for the second-straight year. Brandon Molson just missed out on all-conference honors by one stroke after carding a 227 in the three days, the eighth-best three-round score in team history. Dominic Diaz finished 30th after notching a three-round score of 235.

coach of the year… Head coach Pete Falloon was named MAAC Coach of the Year for the third time in the last four years. The 1965 graduate of Saint Peter's, earned the top coach honor in 2013, 2014 and 2015 and has guided the squad to its only two championships in team history.

ncaa experience... All five Saint Peter's golfers are making their second NCAA Regional appearance. Senior Eric Edmunds finished 59th with a three-round score of 239 to pace the squad while junior Nicholas Dilio (67th place, 245), sophomore Dominic Diaz (72nd place, 250), senior Brian Grubbs (74th, 259) and senior Brandon Molson also participated for the Peacocks. Saint Peter's finished 14th as a team at the NCAA Sugar Grove Regional on May 17, 2014.

rise of the flock... In the month of April, Saint Peter's did not finish lower than third in the five events played and recorded three victories, including winning its second MAAC title. In the nine rounds in April, the Peacocks posted seven of its nine rounds under 300 and averaged 296.7 strokes per round in the month. The squad also recorded Top-3 finishes five times by individuals, including senior Brian Grubbs winning the Peacock Invitational while senior Eric Edmunds and Nicholas Dilio each posting a second-place standing.

golfer of the month… Senior Brian Grubbs was named the MAAC Men's Golfer of the Month for the month of March. It is the senior's first conference weekly honor. Grubbs finished sixth against a highly competitive field at the Whiting-Turner Towson Invitational on Mar. 28-29. After shooting a 77 in the first round, the senior posted a one-over par round of 72 in the final round to finish tied for sixth with a two-day score of 149, six strokes behind the medalist. 

student-athlete of the year... Senior Eric Edmunds was named the Male Student-Athlete of the Year at the Saint Peter's annual athletics banquet on Apr. 27. He after helping the men's golf team to back-to-back MAAC Men's Golf Championships in the last two seasons and finished in the Top-15 of the MAAC Championships all four years, including an eighth-place standing last season and a seventh-place finish this year. 

aye, aye captain… Seniors Eric Edmunds and Brian Grubbs serve as team captains for the 2014-15 season.

the families all back… Saint Peter's returns all eight players from last year's Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Championship team in 2013-14. The Peacocks won their first MAAC title in the spring of 2014 and participated in the NCAA Men's Golf Sugar Grove Regional near Chicago, Ill.

about the coach… Head coach Peter Falloon is in his eighth season at the helm of the men's golf team. He is a 1965 graduate and was a member of the 1964 undefeated squad that won the MECCA Championship.  He was named the Saint Peter's Student-Athlete of the Year in 1965. Falloon was named the MAAC Coach of the Year in three of the last four years.
