Saint Peter's 2, Wagner 5
The Saint Peter's University Men's Tennis (0-1) team began their season on Friday afternoon, as they hosted the Seahawks of Wagner (1-0) for the first match of the season. The Peacocks held their own during the first couple sets of singles play, but would later falter and drop a couple on the back end. In doubles play, the Peacocks couldn't find their grove as the Seahawks swept them by scores of 8-4, 8-3 and 8-0.
For Saint Peter's, two of the Peacocks were able to come out of singles play victorious. Daniil Ivanov was able to win the first singles match of the day. This got the Peacocks out to a great start and they would follow up with some additional solid play. In the second singles match, Jorge Rodriguez would follow suit and beat his opponent giving the Peacocks a 2-0 lead.
These two matches would be the only singles matches won by the Peacocks, as they were narrowly beaten in the remaining four matches. This would give the Peacocks their first loss of the season.
The Saint Peter's Men's Tennis team will take on their next opponent on September 25, against the Hofstra Pride in Uniondale, NY. The time of the match is yet to be announced.
