Box Score JERSEY CITY, NJ - The Saint Peter's women's volleyball loss a MAAC contest to Rider Saturday afternoon at the Yanitelli Center.
Rider stole the win 3-0, scoring (25-18, 25-13, 25-19). With the loss, Saint Peter's will drop to a 0-12 overall record and 0-5 MAAC mark, and Rider improves 8-10 overall and 2-4 in the MAAC.
In the loss, the Peacocks kept good spirits as they battled the Broncs. Leading the Peacocks was Marlena Budna with 8 kills, averaging a high hitting percentage of .538, Amanda Colombo followed with 7 kills and 6 digs, and Kristina Nieves added 5 kills. Caitlin Williams and Carolina Ruiz both added 10 assist each.
The Peacocks got off to a good start as they tied 8-8 with the Broncs. The Broncs quickly bounced back with a breakaway of 6-straight-points leading 14-8. It was then that Saint Peter's was unable to catch up to Rider and loss the set 18-25.
In the second set, the Broncs jumped out with an early lead of 6-1. The Peacocks were not able to counter as the Broncs marked a 6-point run, leading 16-5. The Broncs continued to hold Saint Peter's to a minimum as they won the set 25-12.
The Peacocks got off to a slow start in the third set as the Broncs took the lead 7-3. The Peacocks closed in with 2 sideout points and 3 aces by Kenyale McGinnis taking an 8-7 lead. The two teams went point for point, tieing the score two times before Saint Peter's broke the lead 13-11. The Broncs answered by adding three more points to retake the lead at 14-13. The Peacocks kept their poise keeping an even rally with the Broncs. The Broncs managed to pull away at 18-18 allowing Saint Peter's one point as they stole the match 25-19.
The Peacocks will be on the road for the next two matches facing Siena on Oct. 8th and Marist on the 9th.
