JERSEY CITY, NJ - The Jaspers downed the Peacocks 3-0(25-21, 25-16, 25-13) in a MAAC contest on Sunday afternoon in the Yanitelli Center.
Leaders for Saint Peter's were, Meredith Przybocki with 6 kills scoring accumulative of 7.5 points, Amanda Colombo posted a team high of 10 digs. Setter, Kaitlyn Sitton was unstoppable at the net as she added a team high kill percentage of .400.
Early in the first set the Peacocks managed to keep the competitive spirit as they broke an early deficit of 5-3 evening the score 8-8. Saint Peter's then battled the Jaspers to reach another tie 11-11 until Manhattan jumped ahead leading 17-12. The Peacocks never gave up as scrappy plays and all around effort held the Jaspers to 3 points as they closed in 17-20. Unfortunately the Peacocks let the set slip away as the Jasper's stole the win 25-21.
Saint Peter's was competitive and stayed neck and neck with Manhattan where they were able to tie the Jaspers early at 5-5. However, Manhattan managed to reach a 4-point-stretch upping their score 9-5. As the game went the Peacocks kept their poise as they were able catch up to the Jaspers only falling two points shy at 12-14. Manhattan held the Saint Peter's to four points as they finished the second set 25-16.
In the third set, a lineup change by Saint Peter's along with a new rotation was in play to throw the Jaspers of track. The Jaspers were able to keep their momentum as they led early at 4-1. Saint Peter's fought back to earn the score of 8-11 but the Jaspers rebelled as they doubled their score at 22-11. Saint Peter's only went on to score 2 points as the Manhattan dominated the set 25-13.
"We struggled defensively" said Head coach Monica Dempsey. "We will be working on passing and serving and look to get better."
next up...The Peacocks will have a shot at redemption as they travel to Riverdale to face the Jaspers in their second meet this season on Wednesday, Oct. 19th at 7pm.
