UNIVERSITY PARK, PA - The Saint Peter's women's basketball team fell to powerhouse, Penn State, 106-50 on Sunday afternoon at the Bryce Jordan Center in University Park, PA.
Junior, Talah Hughes led the squad posting team-high 17 points and Janelle Mullen followed adding 10 points.
In the first ten minutes, the Peacocks put 12 points to the board as the Lady Lions took a 39-12 lead into the first intermission.Hughes posted eight of the team's 12 first quarter points, while Sajanna Bethea added the remaining four points.
Going into halftime, the Peacocks fell behind to the Lady Lions, 64-18.
In the second half, the Peacocks scored 32 points, 14 points more than the 18 total scored in the first half. Mullen scored eight of her 10 total points in the third quarter, while Sammy Lochner along with Brianna Tarabocchia scored their first career points in the fourth quarter. Starting freshman point guard, Lochner added three points and freshman forward, Tarabocchia posted two points.
As a team, the Peacocks registered 15 offensive rebounds and 20 defensive rebounds.
In the game, Hughes scored 17 points and added five rebounds while contributing 35 minutes of playing time. Mullen came off the bench playing 25 minutes and added 10 points including shooting 2-4 from 3-point range and 2-2 from the free throw line. Imani Martinez made her first career start for Saint Peter's, scoring 3 points.
next up… Saint Peter's travel to South Carolina participate in the Hall of Fame Classic campus rounds, where they will face Maine on Nov. 20, Hampton Nov. 21, and host school South Carolina Nov. 22. Saint Peter's will then wrap up the tournament in Massachusetts at the MassMutual Center where they will play Bowling Green on Nov. 27.
