Box Score LAWRENCEVILLE, NJ – Saint Peter's men's soccer gave up three late goals in a 5-3 loss to hOURglass rival Rider on Wednesday evening. The senior duo of Luke Fairlamb and Jack Fisher combined for the team's three goals in the contest.
"When you score three goals away from home, you expect to get something out of the game," said head coach Julian Richens. "We thank our seniors for all their hard work and their time here at Saint Peter's."
After falling behind 2-0 early in the second half, the Peacocks rallied off three straight goals to take over the lead. Fairlamb scored back-to-back goals unassisted at the 71st and 80th minutes to equalize the match at 2-2. Fisher answered with the go-ahead goal three minutes later in the 83rd minute on a double assist from Fairlamb and Michael Crentsil putting the Peacocks up 3-2 over their New Jeresy rival. Despite the defensive efforts, Saint Peter's gave up the game-tying goal at 85:56, the go-ahead goal at 86:31, and a safety goal with less than one minute remaining.
Senior goalkeeper Jamie Cleland made four saves in his final career match.
"We will regroup and we will be ready to work very hard in the off-season to make next year a successful one," added Richens.
In back-to-back weeks, the Peacocks had to face the No. 1 seed and regular season MAAC champions, Quinnipiac, and the No. 2 seed in Rider. Saint Peter's took Quinnipiac into overtime in the losing efforts.
The Peacocks finish the 2016 regular season with a final record of 3-13-2 and a 2-8 MAAC record. Closing out their careers with Fairlamb, Fisher, and Cleland were; Louis Mobbs, Chris Stragapede, Colin Covello, Reece Lambert, Brandon Goncalves, Dor Uzan and Christopher Delapenha.
Fairlamb led the Peacocks with team-bests in points (21), goals (7), and assists (7). Classmate Mobbs followed behind Fairlamb with 8 points from four goals. Crentsil tallied two goals and three assists, Goncalves added two goals and one assist, and Chris Rodrigues logged one goal and one assist. Gabrielle Bandelli, Rodrigo DaSilva, Fisher, and Lambert all registered one goal, while Andrew Romero recorded three assists, and Davis Hocking had one assist on the season.
The Peacocks finished the regular season atop of the conference in saves and saves per game. Cleland led the MAAC in saves and saves per game in his final season as a Peacock. Fairlamb ends his career ranked in the leagues top five in points, points per game, goals, goals per game, assists, and assists per game.
