Box Score COLUMBIA, SC - The Saint Peter's women's basketball team fell to the University of Maine in their opening game at the the Hall of Fame Classic in Columbia, SC.
Junior, reserve, Alyssa Velles led the Peacocks with 12 points, while Talah Hughes followed with 10 points and the team-high of 14 rebounds.
The Peacocks put a total of 25 points on the board as the Black Bears took the lead 25-32
just before the intermission. Alyssa carried the Squad with nine points as she knocked 3 of 4 three-pointers in 11 minutes of action. As a team, the Peacocks posted 17 rebounds and a shooting average of 62.5% from the three-point range.
In the second half, the Peacocks scored 27 points, and outrebounded Maine as they posted
24 to the Black Bears 15. Hughes led in the second half as she registered five points and seven rebounds.
In the game, Velles scored 12 points off the bench and added five rebounds and three blocks while contributing 25 minutes of playing time. Hughes led the team with 14 rebounds, contributing 31 minutes of playing time.
"I thought we played well in spurts" said Head coach Pat Coyle. "We have to put 40 minutes together."
