JERSEY CITY, N.J. – Hofstra defeated Saint Peter's 7-0 in non-conference men's tennis action on Saturday.
The Pride swept the double matches to earn the doubles point. Niki Vulinovich and Gustav Akesson teamed up at No. 1 doubles to down Daniil Ivanov (Rostov-On-Don, Russia/UMKC) and Jorge Rodriguez (Havana, Cuba/Elizabeth), 6-2. Markus Smith and Yahn Gawrit downed the No. 2 doubles tandem of Gabriel Russotto (Bayonne, N.J./Saint Peter's Prep) and Douglas Nover (Bayside, N.Y./St. Francis Prep) 6-1 and the Hofstra pair of Leo Pires and Guilherme Freneda defeated Jonathan Paredes (North Bergen, N.J./North Bergen) and Cuong Lam (Vietnam/New Dorp) and No. 3 singles, 6-1.
Ivanov fell 6-3, 6-2 at No. 1 singles to Smith while Parades battled Akesson at No. 3 singles before dropping a 6-1, 7-6 (3) match. Russotto lost to Gawrit at No. 4 singles 6-3, 6-3, Nover dropped a 6-3, 7-5 decision to Pires at No. 5 singles and Freneda downed Lam 6-4, 6-3 at No. 6 singles. Rodriguez was disqualified at No. 2 singles after losing the first set 6-1 and being down 5-0 in the second set.
Saint Peter's returns to action on Sunday at home against Saint Joseph's. Match time is 2 p.m.
