JERSEY CITY, N.J. – Saint Joseph's defeated Saint Peter's 5-2 in non-conference men's tennis action on Sunday.
Daniil Ivanov (Rostov-On-Don, Russia/UMKC) and Jorge Rodriguez (Havana, Cuba/Elizabeth) each recorded singles victories on the afternoon. Ivanov defeated Kyle Chalmers at No. 1 singles 6-1, 6-4 and Rodriguez took down Andre Fick at No. 2 singles, 7-6, 6-4.
The Hawks then won the final four singles matches to take the match. Peter DeWitt defeated Jonathan Paredes (North Bergen, N.J./North Bergen) 6-1, 6-1 at No. 3 singles, Gabriel Russotto (Bayonne, N.J./Saint Peter's Prep) fell at No. 4 singles 6-0, 6-3 to Dan Tan, Douglas Nover (Bayside, N.Y./St. Francis Prep) dropped a three-set match (4-6, 6-1, 6-2) to Sam Cadwell at No. 5 singles and Nick Ringle won in straight sets over Cuong Lam (Vietnam/New Dorp), 6-2, 6-0.
Saint Joseph's swept the doubles matches to take the doubles point. Renier Moolman and Andres Urrea defeated Ivanov and Rodriguez 6-4 at No. 1 doubles. DeWitt and Chalmers downed Russotto and Nover 6-0 at No. 2 doubles and Parades and Cuong lost at No. 3 doubles to Fick and Tan, 6-2.
Saint Peter's returns to action against Yeshiva at the Binghamton Racquet Club on Thursday at 7 p.m.
