EDGEWATER, N.J. – The Saint Peter's men's tennis team defeated Yeshiva 8-1 in non-conference men's tennis action on Thursday. The Peacocks won two of the three doubles matches and then took all six of the singles competition in the win.
Daniil Ivanov (Rostov-On-Don, Russia/UMKC) and Jorge Rodriguez (Havana, Cuba/Elizabeth) defeated David Pappas Elon 9-8 (7-5) at No. 1 doubles and Jonathan Paredes (North Bergen, N.J./North Bergen) and Andres-Sebastian Rojas (Quito, Ecuador/Centerbad) teamed up to defeated Steven Jamal and Charles Saka 8-4 at No. 3 doubles. The Macabees lone win on the night came at No. 2 doubles after Dmitri Lebedyev and Eitan Rodanski downed Gabriel Russotto (Bayonne, N.J./St. Peter's Prep) and Douglas Nover (Bayside, N.Y./St. Francis Prep), 9-7.
In singles play, Rojas defeated Jamal at No. 4 singles 6-2, 6-3, Russotto took down Charles Friedman at No. 5 singles 6-2, 6-1 and Nover won a 6-4, 6-4 decision over Adam Wannon at No. 6 singles.
Yeshiva took Saint Peter's Top-3 singles players to three sets. Ivanov lost the first set 7-5 to Elon before taking the final two sets 6-4, 11-9. Rodriguez defeated Lebedyev 7-5, 4-6, 10-4 and Paredes dropped Eric Bouchara Colon 7-5, 3-6, 6-4.
The Peacocks return to action at St. Thomas in Florida on Tuesday. Match time is 2 p.m.
