Saint Peter's Softball Falls To San Diego In Season Opener

RIVERSIDE, Calif. – San Diego defeated Saint Peter's 10-2 in five innings in non-conference softball action to open the Peacocks 2016 season.

Nicole Feoli (Burlington Township, N.J./Burlington) and Samantha Storms (Lake Geneva, Wisc./William Bay) both knocked in runs for the Saint Peter's (0-1) while Schieler Collins (Frisco, Tex/Wakeland) posted a hit and a run scored and Sophia Perez (Bridgewater, Mass./Bridgewater-Raynham Regional) added a hit in the loss.

Taylor Spence, Kailey Hill and Olivia Sandusky each had two hits and an RBI to pace Toredos (6-6) to the five-inning victory.

San Diego jumped out to a 9-0 lead en route to a 10-2 win to spoil the Peacocks season opener in the Jersey City team's fourth trip out west in program history.

The Toredos scored seven times in the first inning thanks to RBIs from Hill, Lauren Kane, Gaby Grabowski, Danielle Mavridis, Sierra Berryessa and Spence. San Diego was also aided by three errors in the inning.

Sandusky scored in the second on a wild pitch to increase the advantage to 8-0 before Sandusky tacked on another run with an RBI single in the fourth.

Saint Peter's got on the scoreboard in the fifth with two runs. Kirsten Kelley (Seaford, N.Y./General Douglas McArthur) walked and moved to second on Collins' single down the left field line. After Alyssa Cuevas (Sylmar, Calif./Bishop Alemany) walked to load the bases, Feoli knocked in Kelley on a sacrifice fly to left field. Storms then plated Collins on a sacrifice fly to center to cut the margin to 9-2. 

Mavridis scored on a wild pitch in the fifth to seal the five-inning win for the Toredos.

Perez, Collins, Cuevas, Jackie Riley, Noea Pizana (Royse City, Texas/Royse City), Tiffani Lambert (Lincroft, N.J./Middletown South) and Sydney Ramsey (South Amboy, N.J./Cardinal McCarrick) made their collegiate debut on the afternoon.

Crystal Carlucci (Iselin, N.J./John F. Kennedy Memorial) took the loss for the Peacocks.

Saint Peter's returns to action on Saturday against San Diego in the second day of the Amy S. Harrison Classic. Game time is 12 p.m. EST. The Peacocks will also face host UC Riverside at 2:30 p.m. EST.
