Saint Peter's Baseball Drops Final Game At Richmond

Box Score

RICHMOND, Va. – Richmond defeated Saint Peter's 12-2 in non-conference baseball action on Sunday.

Griffin Arnott (Brielle, N.J./Christian Brothers Academy) had a hit and an RBI for the Peacocks (1-3) while Mike Ionta (Westfield, N.J./Westfield) had two hits and a run scored and Jon Kristoffersen (Jefferson, N.J./Jefferson Township) added a hit and a run scored in the loss.

Kyle Adams powered the Spiders (5-1) with three hits, three runs scored and three RBIs while Kurtis Brown added a hit, two runs scored and two RBIs and Daniel Brumbaugh posted a three-run homer.

Saint Peter's took the early lead before Richmond closed the game strong to take both games over the weekend against the Peacocks. The two teams will meet again in a week at Wake Forest.

Angel Perez (Jersey City, N.J./Marist HS) opened the game with an infield single and moved to third on Kristoffersen's double to center. After Rob Moore (Ridge, N.Y./Longwood) walked to load the bases, Nick Ciocco (Cherry Hill, N.J./Cherry Hill) hit a sacrifice fly to center to plate Perez for a 1-0 lead. Kristoffersen then stole third to put runners at the corners with one out, but a strikeout and a fly out ended the threat.

The Peacocks carried the lead into the third until the Spiders scored seven runs to take the lead they would not relinquish. Brown doubled home two runs to give Richmond the lead before Adams scored Brown on an RBI double. Brumbaugh then smacked a three-run homer and Tyler Beckwith capped the seven-run inning with a run-scoring single for a 7-1 lead.

The Jersey City team came back to score a run in the fourth. Ionta walked and moved to second on Nicholas Camilleri's (Hasbrouck Heights, N.J./Saint Peter's Prep) single to center before Tommy Toole (Manasaquan, N.J./Manasaquan) walked to load the bases. Arnott grounded out to shortstop to bring home Ionta to cut the margin to 7-2.

The Spiders added a run-scoring double by Doug Kraeger in the fourth before a Brandon Johnson solo homer and D.J. Lee scored on a wild pitch in the fifth to increase the margin to 10-2.

Adams then ended the game with a two-run homer in the eighth.

Anthony Assante (Brick, N.J./Brick Memorial) took the loss.

Saint Peter's returns to action at Wake Forest on Thursday. Game time is 4 p.m.
