Saint Peter's Women's Bowling Heads To KU Allentown Tournament This Weekend

opening pin… Saint Peter's heads to the KU Allentown Tournament on Saturday and Sunday after an event at Delaware State was cancelled.

last time out… The Saint Peter's women's bowling team won two of its three matches on Jan. 31 to move up to sixth place at the Red Flash Invitational. On the opening day of the Red Flash Invitational, the Peacocks went 3-2 that included three-straight wins to end the day in baker play. Saint Peter's lost 3-2 to Pittsburgh to start the competition by scores of 113-178, 166-135, 145-165, 178-146 and 178-133. The Peacocks then lost to host Saint Peter's 5-0 after the Red Flash won 169-126, 195-146, 204-176, 192-120, 225-133. The Jersey City team then got in the win column after defeating Coppin State 146-114, 148-166, 132-103, 135-125 and 160-132 for a 4-1 victory. Saint Peter's then downed Thiel 4-1 thanks to scores of 163-134, 175-107, 119-108, 149-120, 129-133. The squad concluded the first day with a 3-2 victory against Mount Aloysius after taking the match 161-134, 159-187, 159-144, 168-179 and 163-152. On the second day, teams played traditional and the Peacocks 1-5 on the afternoon. Saint Peter's started the day with a 901-815 loss to Felician with Amanda Santos leading the way with a total of 193. Courtney Klukiewski paced the team with a 177 in a 774-751 loss to Penn State. The junior then posted a day-best 207 to help Saint Peter's to an 800-778 win against Morgan State. Kutztown defeated the Jersey City team 960-787 with Jacquelyn Broadfoot leading the team with a score of 177 before Klukiewski led the team for the third time on the afternoon with a score of 167 in a 726-654 loss to New Jersey City University. Saint Peter's then won two of the three in the championship round to finish sixth in the three-day event. The Peacocks started the day with a 4-2 win in baker with scores of 149-162, 144-202, 158-156, 189-144, 154-152 and 155-128 to set up a matchup with Pitt Bradford. The Jersey City team won the best of seven matchup 4-3 with scores of 151-133, 159-174, 181-154, 158-179, 134-159, 189-149 and 149-141. The squad then lost to Morgan State, who the Peacocks beat the day before in traditional, with a score of 4-3 after totals of 187-173, 184-200, 177-225, 178-142, 166-159, 158-169 and 192-147.

next time on the lanes… Saint Peter's returns to action at another Kutztown hosted event with the Golden Bear Classic on Feb. 12-14.

pin setters… The Peacocks have two juniors (Courtney Klukiewski and Amanda Santos) and three sophomores (Jacquelyn BroadfootLidia DeSapio and Jasmine Hodges).

new to the flock… Junior Courtney Klukiewski joins the team in 2015-16.

about the coach… Jen Housward begins her second season at Saint Peter's as the women's bowling head coach in 2014-15. Houseward served as an assistant coach for the bowling program in 2013-14 after a successful four-year bowling career at Saint Peter's. Houseward, who graduated in 2013 with a bachelor's degree in health and physical education, helped the Saint Peter's bowling squad to first-place standing at the Beach Open Tournament in North Carolina in 2009 and to the team's first winning season in program history with a 61-51 mark in her freshman campaign. She has helped Saint Peter's to a second-place finish at the Hampton Roads Collegiate Bowling Invitational in 2010 and the Peacocks reached its highest national ranking in team history after ranking 17th in the country in December of 2011.
