Box Score BUFFALO, N.Y. – Canisius defeated Saint Peter's 11-7 to complete a three-game sweep in Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) baseball action on Sunday.
Rob Moore (Ridge, N.Y./Longwood) paced the Peacocks (4-13, 0-3 MAAC) with two hits, two runs scored, two RBIs and his first home run of the season. Angel Perez (Jersey City, N.J./Marist HS) added two hits and two runs scored while Jon Kristoffersen (Jefferson, N.J./Jefferson Township) posted a hit, two runs scored and an RBI and Jason Midkiff (Wanaque, N.J./Paramus Catholic) recorded two hits and an RBI in the loss.
Jake Lumley powered the Golden Griffins (9-13, 3-0 MAAC) with two hits, three runs scored and four RBIs while Anthony Massicci also had four RBIs along with a hit and a run scored in the winning effort.
For the second-straight day, Canisius rallied to come from behind to defeat Saint Peter's to complete the three-game sweep in the opening league weekend.
Trailing 7-5 in the fourth, the Golden Griffins scored five times in the fourth and once in the fifth to earn an 11-7 victory.
Tim Kensinger and Ryan Stekl each hit RBI singles to tie the game at 7 in the fourth before Massicci capped the five-run inning with a three-run homer for a 10-7 advantage. Lumley added a sacrifice fly in the fifth to seal the victory.
The Peacocks jumped out to a 7-5 lead through three and a half innings. Saint Peter's started the game with three runs in the first.
Perez started the game with a walk and came around to score after Kristoffersen singled to right. After Moore walked, Mike Ionta (Westfield, N.J./Westfield) brought home Kristoffersen on an RBI fielder's choice before Tommy Toole (Manasquan, N.J./Manasquan) coaxed a bases loaded walk to give the Peacocks a 3-0 lead.
Canisius answered with two runs in the bottom of the frame on a Liam Wilson RBI single to center and a Massicci sacrifice fly to trim the margin to 3-2.
Perez was the catalyst for three runs in the second after the sophomore reached on a single to left field to start the inning before Kristoffersen put runners on the corners after reaching by an error. Perez then scored on Moore's RBI fielder's choice and Nick Ciocco (Cherry Hill, N.J./Cherry Hill) followed with an RBI fielder's choice of his own. Midkiff capped the three-run frame with an RBI single up the middle to bring home Ciocco to hand Saint Peter's a 6-2 lead.
Once again the Golden Griffins answered with three runs in the bottom of the frame courtesy of a Lumley three-run homer to cut the margin to 6-5.
Moore then led off the fourth with his first home run of the year to extend the lead to 7-5, but Canisius scored the final six runs including five in the fourth to rally for the victory.
John Leiter (Toms River, N.J./Toms River South) took the loss for the Peacocks.
Saint Peter's returns to action on Tuesday when the squad makes its 2016 Jaroschak Field debut against NJIT. Game time is 3:30 p.m.
