Box Score 2 JERSEY CITY, N.J. – Columbia swept a non-conference softball doubleheader against Saint Peter's on Thursday. The Lions took the opener 6-1 and then won the nightcap, 5-1.
Samantha Storms (Lake Geneva, Wisc./William Bay) paced the Peacocks with three hits, including a solo homer, two RBIs and a run scored. Jackie Riley (South Amboy, N.J./Cardinal McCarrick) added two hits and a run scored in the second game for the Peacocks (0-21) while Nicole Feoli (Burlington Township, N.J./Burlington) posted a hit in each contest on the afternoon.
Jordan Townsend fueled the Lions (9-24) after going 7-for-8 in the two games with three RBIs while Madison Gott posted four hits, four runs scored and four RBIs, including a pair of two run homers in the nightcap.
In the opener, Columbia jumped out to a 3-0 lead through three innings.
Townsend got the scoring started with an RBI single up the middle in the first before Townsend smacked a two-run double in the third for a three-run lead.
Storms answered in the fourth with a solo homer over the left field fence to cut the margin to 3-1.
The Lions answered right back with three runs to take a 6-1 lead in the fifth. Alexandra Yule plated Townsend with an RBI single through the right side, Bonnie Schipper posted an RBI groundout and the third run came across on an error.
Gott provided the power for Columbia in the second game to lead the Lions to a 5-1 win.
Gott posted a two-run homer to left in the third and then repeated the feat in the fifth to give Columbia a 4-0 lead.
In the sixth, the Jersey City team got a run back. Riley and Storms hit back-to-back doubles to right center to bring home Riley and cut the margin to 4-1.
Townsend then capped her seven-hit afternoon with a solo shot in the seventh to set the final score at 5-1.
Crystal Carlucci (Iselin, N.J./John F. Kennedy Memorial) took the loss in the opener and Tiffani Lambert (Lincroft, N.J./Middletown South) took the loss in the nightcap.
Saint Peter's returns to action on Saturday when the squad opens up league play at Marist. First pitch is 12 p.m.
