Box Score 2 JERSEY CITY, N.J. – Fairfield swept a Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) softball doubleheader against Saint Peter's on Thursday. The Stags won both games in five innings with a 12-1 win and an 8-0 victory on the day.
Lee Harrison (Las Vegas, Nev./Coronado) paced the Peacocks (0-29, 0-6 MAAC) with a solo homer in the opener while Jackie Riley (South Amboy, N.J./Cardinal McCarrick) and Tiffani Lambert (Lincroft, N.J./Middletown South) each had a hit on the day.
Harrison, who has two home runs this season, now has 23 round trippers for her career to rank fourth in program history. The senior is one of four players in program history to smack 20 homers in her career.
Lauren Filicia powered the Stags (20-16, 7-3 MAAC) by going 7-for-7 with three RBIs and three runs scored. Angelina McGuire posted three hits, five RBIs and two runs scored while Kate Robinson posted three RBIs, three runs scored on the afternoon.
In the opener, Fairfield scored seven runs in the first inning and went on for a 12-1 victory.
Courtney Hankins opened the scoring in the first with an RBI single before Tori Reed was hit by the pitch with the bases loaded to force the second run home. McGuire then smacked a grand slam over the center field fence and Filicia capped the offensive outburst with an RBI single up the middle for a 7-0 lead.
Reed singled through the left side in the second to increase the Stags lead to eight runs before Gianna Kinhofer hit a sacrifice fly in the fourth for a 9-0 advantage.
Harrison got Saint Peter's on the scoreboard with a two-out solo homer to left field to trim the margin to 9-1.
Fairfield capped the victory with three runs in the fifth on a Robinson sacrifice fly and a two-run homer by Lauren Peterson for a 12-1 win.
The Stags used a four run and a three-run inning and went on for the 8-0 decision.
Fairfield posted four runs in the second to take a 4-0 margin. After Reed and McGuire opened the second with back-to-back solo homers, Filicia doubled home a run and Kristen Ball capped the rally with a sacrifice fly to center.
Filicia hit an RBI single to center and Robinson smacked a two-run homer in the fourth to extend the Stags a 7-0 lead. Molly Roche added a run-scoring single to left field in the fifth to seal the 8-0 win.
Lambert and Sydney Ramsey (Maineville, Ohio/Kings) took the losses on the afternoon for the Peacocks.
Saint Peter's returns to action on Saturday against Canisius. First pitch is 12 p.m.
