JERSEY CITY, N.J. – Daniil Ivanov (Rostov-On-Don, Russia/UMKC) won his singles and doubles matches to end his career on a high note and help Saint Peter's past Siena 4-3 in Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) men's tennis action on Sunday.
Ivanov started his final tennis match of his collegiate career by teaming up with Douglas Nover (Bayside, N.Y./St. Francis Prep) for a 6-4 win at No. 1 doubles against Alessandro Sagkia and Diego Lebron. Ivanon then took his No. 1 singles match 6-0, 6-2 against Sagkia to wrap up his collegiate career. Prior to the match, Ivanov was honored as the lone senior on the team.
The Peacocks earned the doubles point by sweeping the three tandem matches. Andres-Sebastian Rojas (Quinto, Ecuador/Centebad) and Gabe Russotto (Bayonne, N.J./Saint Peter's Prep) downed Jake Koretz and Evan Nierman 7-6 (3) at No. 2 doubles while Jonathan Paredes (North Bergen, N.J./North Bergen) and Cuong Lam (Ho Chi Minh, Vietnam/New Dorp) teamed up to defeat Brendan Bootin and Alex Reed at No. 3 doubles, 6-4.
Along with Ivanov's singles win, Nover defeated Peter Galante 6-0, 6-0 and what might have been the difference in the match was when Rojas earned a win against Lebron 5-6 before Lebron retired at No. 3 singles.
For the Saints, Koretz defeated Parades 7-6 (4), 6-2 at No. 2 singles, Nierman took a three-set match against Russotto at No. 4 singles 3-6, 6-3, 10-2 and Bootin downed Lam 6-3, 2-6, 10-8 at No. 6 singles.
Sunday's match ended the season for Saint Peter's.
