opening pitch… Saint Peter's hits the road this week for a pair of rescheduled league games. The Peacocks head south to face Rider on Tuesday and then head north to Iona on Wednesday.

the word on the broncs… Rider comes into the doubleheader 5-34 overall and 2-10 in league play after being swept by Marist on Sunday. Toni Nino leads the team with a .299 batting average with 35 hits, 15 runs scored, two doubles and six RBIs. Dana Sensi is hitting .293 with 34 hits, 17 runs scored, 12 doubles, three homers and 18 RBIs while Monica Clark has 27 base hits, 14 runs scored, nine doubles, three homers and three RBIs. Megan Ailand leads the team with a 1-14 record and 18 strikeouts in 112.2 innings.

last time we met the broncs… Rider and Saint Peter's split a doubleheader on Apr. 19, 2015 with the Peacocks won the opening contest 12-8 before falling in the second game, 9-2.  Crystal Carlucci fueled the Peacocks with three hits, two homeruns, two RBIs and two runs scored. Samantha Storms recorded four hits, two runs, three RBI and three runs scored in the twinbill. Dana Sensi led the Broncs with four hits, one RBI and two runs scored. Kim Valdes posted three hits and two RBIs while Delany DeMello tallied three hits, one RBI and one run scored in the doubleheader. 

the word on the gaels… Iona comes into the twinbill 9-27 overall and 3-7 in league play after splitting a doubleheader with Quinnipiac on Sunday. Kristen Turner leads the team with a .360 batting average with 41 hits, 18 runs scored, five doubles, eight homers and 26 RBIs. Marisa Gergel is batting .356 with 32 hits, 13 runs scored, two homers and 10 RBIs while Katie Newton is batting .320 with 40 hits, 14 runs scored, two doubles, three homers and 15 RBIs. Christine Costello is 4-8 with a 3.03 ERA and 40 strikeouts in 74.0 innings pitched.

the last time we met the gaels… Iona swept a softball doubleheader against Saint Peter's on Apr. 12, 2015. The Gaels won the opener 18-0 and then defeated the Peacocks in the second game, 12-6. Chelsea Crews tallied four hits and one run scored on the day. Candice Koch posted three hits, one run and one RBI while Stacey Klempel added one hit, one run and three RBIs in the doubleheader. Kristen Turner powered the Gaels with five hits, five runs and five RBIs. Courtney Miller added four hits, three runs and five RBIs in the sweep.

next time out… Saint Peter's returns to Jaroschak Field on Saturday to host Quinnpiac.

rain, rain go away… The matchup against Rider, originally scheduled for April 3, has been moved to Tuesday, April 26 at 2:30 p.m. in Lawrenceville, N.J. In addition the twinbill against Iona, originally slated for April 9, has been rescheduled for Wednesday, April 27 at 2 p.m. in New Rochelle, N.Y. To accommodate these changes, Saint Peter's has moved non-conference doubleheaders against Stony Brook and Hofstra. The twinbill at Stony Brook, originally scheduled for April 27, has been moved to Sunday, May 1 at 12 p.m. while the doubleheader at Hofstra, originally scheduled for April 21, will now be played on Tuesday, May 3 starting at 5 p.m. The doubleheader against Army is the only postponed date without a makeup date at this juncture.

the leaders… Junior Samantha Storms and freshman Jackie Riley lead the team with 19 hits while senior Lee Harrison and freshman Alyssa Cuevas pace the team with six runs scored and Harrison has a team-best seven stolen bases. Storms leads the team in homers (3) homers, doubles (6) and RBIs (11). Freshman Tiffani Lambert leads the team with 52.2 innings pitched while Riley has a team-best 19 strikeouts.

preseason poll… The 2015 MAAC champion Fairfield Stags were selected as the preseason favorite after garnering four first-place votes. Canisius picked up three first-place nods to place second while Manhattan finished third after posting two first-place votes. Iona placed fourth and Marist was fifth despite receiving the final two first-place selections while Monmouth, Siena, Quinnipiac, Rider, Niagara and Saint Peter's rounded out the poll.

feoli honored as a freshman… Sophomore Nicole Feoli was a unanimous selection to the inaugural MAAC All-Rookie team. The sophomore infielder paced the Peacocks in batting average (.371) and runs scored (19), while ranking third on the team in hits (33). Feoli posted a hit in 23 of the 40 games played, including six games with at least two hits and two games with three hits. The freshman knocked in a season-high three runs in a 12-8 victory against Rider on Apr. 19.
