Box Score 2 QUEENS, N.Y. – St. John's swept a non-conference doubleheader against Saint Peter's on Wednesday. The Red Storm took the opener 8-0 in five innings and then took the nightcap, 6-0.
Jackie Riley (South Amboy, N.J./Cardinal McCarrick), Crystal Carlucci (Iselin, N.J./John F. Kennedy Memorial), Sydney Ramsey (Maineville, Ohio/Kings), Noea Pizana (Royse City, Texas/Royse City) and Lee Harrison (Las Vegas, Nev./Coronado) each registered a hit for the Peacocks (0-19) in the twinbill.
Taylor Hill paced St. John's with three hits, two RBIs and a run scored while Brittany Garcia posted two hits, three RBIs and a run scored on the afternoon.
In the opener, the Red Storm scored five times in the second and three times in the fourth to earn an 8-0 win in five innings.
Christina Melendez and Monique Landini started a five-run second inning with RBI singles up the middle before Kaitlyn Wilkens hit an RBI single to center and Hill capped the rally with two-run single to shortstop for a 5-0 lead.
St. John's added three runs in the fourth on a Lauren Zick RBI single to center field, a Garcia sacrifice fly while the final run came home on an error to cap the 8-0 victory.
Saint Peter's got a couple runners to second base, but could not score. In the first Alyssa Cuevas (Sylmar, Calif./Bishop Alemany) and Carlucci each walked with two outs, but a groundout ended the threat. Riley broke up the no-hitter in the fourth with a double with no outs, but a pair of strikeouts and popup ended the threat.
The Red Storm scored a run in five different innings to complete the sweep with a 6-0 decision.
Garcia got the scoring started in the first inning on a solo homer before Savannah Warren doubled home a run to cap a two-run opening frame.
Landini smacked a solo homer to center in the second and Carly Williams went yard in the fourth and Garcia smacked an RBI double in the fifth for a five-run lead.
Hannah Anderson capped the 6-0 win with an RBI single in the sixth.
The best chance for the Peacocks to score in the nightcap came in the sixth inning
in the nightcap. Ramsey singled to shortstop and Harrison reached on a single to left field. After a fielder's choice and a groundout put runners on the corners, Kirsten Kelley (Seaford, N.Y./General Douglas McArthur) was hit with the pitch to load the bases only to see a strikeout end the threat. Saint Peter's had two singles in the seventh on a Carlucci single through the left side with one out and a Pizana infield single with two outs, but a pop out ended the game.
Carlucci took the loss in the opener and Tiffani Lambert (Lincroft, N.J./Middletown South) took the loss in the second game.
The Peacocks returns to action on Saturday at Iona. Game time is 12 p.m.
