Box Score PISCATAWAY, N.J. – Rutgers defeated Saint Peter's 10-1 in a seven-inning, rain-shortened non-conference baseball contest on Tuesday. The game was called after the top of the seventh due to inclement weather and poor mound conditions.
Angel Perez (Jersey City, N.J./Marist HS) posted a hit and knocked in the Peacocks (8-33) lone run on a bases loaded walk in the second while Jason Midkiff (Wanaque, N.J./Paramus Catholic) scored the squad's run on the afternoon. Tommy Toole (Manasquan, N.J./Manasquan) went 3-for-3 and Mike Ionta (Westfield, N.J./Westfield) added two hits in the loss.
Christian Campbell paced the Scarlet Knights (23-22) with two hits, two runs scored and three RBIs while Tom Marcinczyk and Milo Freeman each knocked in two runs in the winning effort.
Rutgers scored in each of the first four innings en route to the 10-1 win against Saint Peter's.
The Scarlet Knights scored four times in the first to take a 4-0 lead. Campbell got the scoring started with an RBI single to left before Freeman plated a run when he reached on an error while another run came home on the play. John Jennings capped the inning with an RBI double.
The Peacocks scored a run in the second to trim the margin to 4-1. With one out, Midkiff walked and moved to second when Nick Ciocco (Cherry Hill, N.J./Cherry Hill) reached on an error before Toole loaded the bases with an infield single. After the second out was recorded, Perez coaxed a bases loaded walk to put Saint Peter's on the scoreboard.
Freeman added an RBI groundout in the second while R.J. Devish hit an RBI single and Marcinczyk had a two-run single in the third to increase the margin to 8-1. Campbell added a two-run double down the left field line in the fourth to set the final score at 10-1.
Steve Epstein (Marlboro, N.J./Marlboro) took the loss for the Peacocks.
Saint Peter's returns to action on Wednesday at home against Lehigh. Game time is 3:30 p.m.
