Box Score FAIRFIELD, CT – Ezequiel Cei scored the game-winning goal in the 98th minute to propel Saint Peter's to its first win of the season over Sacred Heart, 3-2 on Wednesday night. The overtime was the third consecutive extra period match for the Peacocks, but first time being on the winning end after playing UMass to a draw and falling to La Salle.
"It was good to get the first win of the season," explained head coach Julian Richens. "We had players getting their opportunities with a lot of players out today and it was especially difficult with the lightning delay, but we maintained focus well."
Saint Peter's fell behind 20 minutes into the game, giving up a goal to Sacred Heart. At the 42nd mark, Rodrigo DaSilva scored the equalizer for the Peacocks knotting the contest at 1-1.
In the second half, the Pioneers struck again, with Shaquille Saunchez scoring his second tally putting Sacred Heart in the lead. Again, the Peacocks would score the game-tying goal, this time with it coming from a one touch by Andrew Romero to Michael Crentsil who scored from 10 yards out.
In the extra period, Brandon Goncalves fed Cei 30 yards out, where Cei found the back of the top left corner for the win.
"Ezequiel's overtime goal was a worthy winner of any game and is a great reward for him after all his work on getting himself back in shape after his long lay off," added Richens.
Brandon Pereira made his second start since the season opener and improved his starting record to 1-1.
The Peacocks improve to 1-3-1 on the season and are back at home on Saturday for meeting with Hartwick at 2p.m.
